Enrique Gonzalez hasn't been to the Winter Equestrian Festival (Fla.) since 2011, but this year he's making his presence known early as he scored a win in the $86,000 Marshall & Sterling Insurance Grand Prix CSI** aboard Chacna.

Young Irish rider spent most of last year in the under-25 grand prix division, but at the end of the year he got to take over the reins of the top horses of Ariel and Sue Grange's Lothlorien Farm. And he started 2017 with a big win at the Winter Equestrian Festival (Fla.) in the $75,000 Rosenbaum Mollengarden PLLC Grand Prix aboard a horse he'd only riddon for a week—Cita.

The 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games will be held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, N.C., from Sept. 10 to 23. 

The Fédération Equestre Internationale Bureau today unanimously agreed that the WEG should be awarded to Tryon, meaning that the FEI’s flagship event remains in North America, following the withdrawal of Bromont (Quebec) earlier this year.

"You really have to read the jump-off and ride it the way that suits your horse depending on who's in the jump-off and how fast they're going," said Sharn Wordley after he rode Casper to the top of the $130,000 Asheville/Greenville BMW Centers' Grand Prix CSI 3* over Conor Swail on Hetman Of Colors.
