Tori Colvin topped the Washington International Equitation Classic Final today, the final equitation class of her storied career.
Sima Morgello nailed an inside turn to over away with the Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Championship today. “She’s such a small horse that we decided to go inside and add in six, which made landing a lot more rideable," she said.

Harrisburg, Pa.—Oct. 18.

Unex Omelli has been out of major competition for eight months, but he wasted no time getting back in the swing of things at his first big show back. He and British rider Tim Gredley scooped up the top prize in the $40,000 Pennsylvania Big Jump at the Pennsylvania National with a speedy jump-off round.

He clinches another title—but there was plenty of hubbub at the in-gate.

Elizabeth Benson could only improve her hunter phase placing by moving up one spot, so she did just that. Finishing yesterday’s hunter phase of the Washington International Equitation Classic in second place, Benson, 17, entered the ring this afternoon after seeing 33 of her competitors tackle the jumper course set by Michel Vaillancourt, as the riders returned in reverse order. Her scores of 92, 91.5 and 87.5 gave her the round’s highest score of 90.33, and she sits in the top spot going into tonight’s work-off phase.

Shawn Casady only needed to see seven riders go before him to know exactly what he needed to do to win the hunter round of the Washington International Horse Show Equitation Classic. The 17-year-old rider from Midtown, Tenn., posted the highest scores of the day aboard Worlds Fair. His average mark of 87.66 sits just ahead of Elizabeth Benson (87). Last year's ASPCA Maclay Finals and Pessoa/USEF Medal Finals winner, Hayley Barnhill, earned an identical mark as Benson, but the tie-breaking procedures technically have her third.

Oct. 8—Upper Marlboro, Md.

If you ask trainer Leslie Emerson why Shawn Casady rides her charge Stars Go Blue so well, she can’t tell you.

“He rides so much through feel that I don’t even think he knows how he does it,” she said. “They are an incredible combination—nobody rides him like he does. They are made for each other.”
