
Eventer Elisa Wallace first made headlines when she won the South Carolina Extreme Mustang Makeover in 2012, which challenged trainers to take a wild, untouched Mustang and turn them into a suitable riding horse in 120 days.
“No. No way, no how. What exactly is the point of running around in circles when I could be doing something MUCH cooler, like riding through cross-country and show jump courses, and run around in circles at a (slightly) slower pace in the dressage ring? Racing, in all actuality, looks boring, and is not the sport for me. Pointless. Just, no.”

No one ever promised that keeping horses and maintaining a stable was easy. Those of us who choose to do so, do it for many reasons, none of which include easy.
We do it because it’s more satisfying to look at a clean barn and freshly bedded stalls than it is to vacuum and dust the house. We do it because we don’t mind the exercise involved, which is equally as strenuous as using 20 different Nautilus machines, and we don’t have to join a club or leave home.
