A Typical Kentucky Day

So Monday was a wet one! Horses haven't worn blankets in months and Woodburn is now in three! The water bucket heaters came out from the cobwebs, and horses got hot baths. It reminds me of England, and I prefer it to 100-degree weather.

Woodburn is starting to settle into his work. Phillip had a lesson with Oded yesterday and then took him on a hack down to the arenas. At these world competitions all countries from different disciplines are fighting for various arena times, so it can be very difficult for riders to work their horses when it is ideal for them.

Last night there was a new competition between the British and Americans. Land Rover, who are now very generous sponsors of the three-day team, put together an off-roading car course. Each team member got to drive the Discovery around the course. They had to go through posts without hitting them. Ten seconds were added on for each marker hit. Although cold, there was still a competitive atmosphere, and I am disappointed to say that the British beat us. I guess I win and lose—being British I still feel connected to the homeland!

Today (Tuesday), I feel there is a change in the camp, although we try to keep things happy and stress free, now everyone is starting to get in serious competition mode. The riders are off to their rider meeting in 10 minutes and then they get to do ring familiarization at noon. They are planning on their first course walk this afternoon.

From what we can see roadside, it looks very impressive. It has been continuously watered, and the track looks like a piece of green ribbon winding through the park.

The jog is at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Fingers crossed the news will be good as we get underway.
