Default New Season of Survivor! Any other fans out there?

Yay! The new season of Survivor started tonight. Brawn v. Brains v. Beauty. Not sure that all the tribes are allocated correctly according to those criteria, but the brains tribe looks like it's in trouble early.

The "horse trainer" on the beauty tribe? Interesting guy--started training race horses this year. I think he was wearing paddock boots...or I might be mistaken.

Love that the Trailblazer Cliff Robinson is playing this year! Fun to see such a big guy out there--he was a really nice guy when he played here in Portland. Hope he goes far!

I kind of go in and out. I'm watching it now. I wish it were less so much manipulating and more just real survival skills.

I thought it might be different since they started out the whole thing with some actual good twists, but it looks like it's back to the same old, same old. Those stupid challenges are the same way every time.

To me, it's a psychological study: how do people act and react when put under pressure. Fascinating! Each season is different, because each group is different. I think it's the most honest of the "reality" shows, along with The Amazing Race. Most of the other "survival" shows are fairly contrived.

But, to each their own! I hope this season is more fun to watch than last was. That got a bit boring.

Yeah, it is, and I get that. I just hate the aspect of the worst behavior succeeding. Like Tajia having a temper tantrum and throwing out the rice, and then the cool poker player getting voted off. I like him. He was smart, strong, and had a good soul. He wanted to be honest and open, and they ripped him for it.

I think this is really contrived. It's geared towards conflict and bad behavior, as are most reality shows. What a thought to do something to reward morals and good behavior. That's kind of why I like Undercover Boss and the other one where millionaires go undercover to help people and contribute.

Unfortunately, people pick up on behavior we see. Thus, we see people who are horrible, cheat people, behave like porn stars, whatever who do more of it because they get the reward they see others get. Sad.

I was hoping they'd really rework it to gear it to be more useful in learning good behavior.

    I haven't missed a season yet!

FWIW the poker player was lazy and had no sense of discretion, let alone strategy. He said he didn't want to have to 'survive' and he wasn't enjoying it. I had to wonder if he'd ever seen the show.

I'm here too. Too bad they voted the leader "brains" guy out first, because I think he would have been interesting to watch. Thought the poker player was a dork to begin with, and he since he engineered voting out the first guy, he got his just deserts. Will be interested in seeing what they do with no rice--I would have been on all fours down by the fire pit grabbing every little grain I could get my hands on--dirt and twigs add that wild flavor and a bit of fiber.

I also like the basketball guy and the horsetrainer too.

I have not watched it yet, recorded it.

I watch ever season but I am someone who is not a fan of all the back stabbing and such. I like the players that simply play a good game, not those that go around lying to everyone.

Another fan, here (though I feel like I need to hide my obsession from the rest of the world ), THANK YOU for this thread, CC!

I too have watched from the beginning, never missing a season. My husband HATES the show, but watches it to appease me and keep me company--though he is dragged along for the ride, he usually gets into it despite himself

This is the first season in what seems like awhile where there have been no "veterans" or fan favorites; kind of refreshing!

And a horse trainer--score! I thought it was interesting when they picked him as "leader" right off the bat (he must have been emitting a "leaderly energy", which is a way of being I encourage when training my horse and dog students--it works with people too.)

I was bummed when they voted the "brains" guy out (was he the owner of the Miami Marlins?) since he seemed to have a logical approach to things, and would have likely been useful to his tribe down the road.

Poker player=narcissistic body builder!, but his "brawn" would have come in handy for his tribe! He made a huge strategic mistake by using an "open forum" to discuss voting out the lazy, childish J'Tia--who is the "least worthy" of the tribe--and should have been a NO BRAINER to be voted out. And he was voted out with an immunity idol in his pocket, Ha. Dang.

I kind of like the two cops in the brawn tribe: especially Tony--it'll be interesting to see how they do as the season wears on. The HUGE former NBA player seems to be "sitting on the sidelines" a lot and letting the smaller folks do most of the heavy lifting, so far he is skating by on his likeability, but how long will that last??

The former NFL cheerleader, ARGH! Vapid, dumb, spoiled, and clearly just on the show in order to garner "media attention" (and get visibility? and money?); she's the star of her own show (in her own mind, such that it is) all bouncing boobies and seduction attempts. Oy.

Ironic that the "brain" tribe did the worst on the puzzle challenge, but that was all the fault of J'Tia' and her ego and ineptitude (she certainly has a bloated opinion of herself!) It was fun to see the "beauty" tribe smoke them.

Me too! My husband always teases me about how emotional I get about the people and their behavior--it seems like the players I DETEST always wind up making it to the end , only rarely do "deserving people" wind up winning the thing, but they do occasionally--and this is what keeps me watching

Let's keep this going throughout the season. Nobody I know watches it, and discussion is fun.

Favorite-most player ever (although there have been many) was Boston Rob, because he knew what he was doing most of the time and when he was double and triple crossing everyone he owned up to it.

Another fairly consistent fan here although there were a few years when I missed most of some of the seasons. I really enjoy the personalities and seeing how relationships evolve, and I always root for the ones who try to be good guys. I also love seeing what they come up with for the challenges - some of that stuff looks like it would be so fun to try.

So, so glad that there are no returning veterans this season and a new location - although not a great fan of all the snakes and other reptiles they are showing in the close-up shots. With the monsoon rains and the reptiles, it does seem like this season may be more of a physical test than some of the recent ones.

Brains tribe certainly not off to a good start. They each think they are the smartest and don't have great social skills - shocking! I don't see them getting it together for challenges unless it's some kind of memory game or something with a minimal physical component. Thinking maybe there will be an early re-configuration down to two tribes. Don't think I will particularly miss David and was glad to see Garrett go - I can't stand that bulky, muscle-bound look, and he seemed dopey. Don't think Cass, Spencer, or J'Tia will go far - lordy, it scares me that J'Tia is a nuclear engineer somewhere!

In the other tribes, I liked Trish and LJ. Tony, I think, might end up being a loose cannon. We shall see!

On the Beauty tribe - I like LJ. The other 2 guys are morons (and let's be honest here, Brice should not be in this group. He's not even remotely attractive.) Actually, I would have expected the entire group to be HOT, and they aren't.

Brains - Garrett needed to go. I really didn't want to watch him all season long whining about having to do anything while he's lounging around in his underwear. I think Kass is going to go far, she's cunning... As for J'Tia - CRAZY as a loon. And Spencer summed it up when he said it's scary that she's a nuclear engineer.

Brawn - I like all of them except for the guy cop. There's something not quite right about him. I like the girl cop - she seems like she'll go far.

He is one of my long time least favorite people. What a slimeball.

Agree with the above paragraph; the only saving grace of the Beauty tribe is LJ, and BRICE, a "beauty"?!? Whaaaaa? They will likely kick the asses of the Brain Tribe, especially with J'Tia and her narcissistic crazy. Nuclear engineer, hmm. Makes one wonder--and not in a good way

    I love survivor.

Wow, lots of man eye-candy to see. mmm mmmm mmmm!!! I like a guy with a big chest and big arms.

That stoopid idiot J' tay, or what ever her name is. Could not do a puzzle. DOH She she should have left, instead of the muscled poker player guy. He was some man eye candy to see.

Interesting how each group interacts with each other.
