Default The "random question" makes it impossible to sign up!

I just spent about 20 minutes trying to sign up - I'm new to equines and equestrianism, and I must say I've never had a worse experience registering for a forum!

The questions are extremely difficult (yet easy to put the answers to the 10 questions in a spam script if someone really wanted to).

My theory with these types of questions is that it should be easy for a human, but impossible for a computer - not the other way around!

Perhaps have a look at something like this if you don't want to go with the "classic captcha": http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10204300-1.html

There are questions? It's been a long time since I signed up... they must be new.

I didn't remember questions either, so I logged out and started to register just to see.

I got this one- pretty easy

. If Mr. Ed had come off of the track, we might have seen one of these when he was flapping his lips with Wilbur.

There's random questions for the search function too, if you're not logged in. Kinda annoying.

I have got to admit that the few times I have been logged out (like at work) and needed to search I gave up because I couldn't figure out the random questions.

There's a Help Forum under the main Forum link, which would be a good place to post your observations/concerns about the sign-on process. Count me in as another who despises "recaptcha" or whatever the heck it is called!

I've never dealt with the question, but I know that on most websites, I struggle with the "prove you're not a robot" section. I'm starting to think I actually am a robot/cyborg/etc.

    Welcome to the board, OP!

Cool, I did not know there were trivia questions to sign up.

I can see how it would be frustrating though.

You should try registering at the Steampunk forum- you have to tell time... with a clock with a dial... and three hands... and they aren't all connected at a center point- nor are they pointing at points on the clockface. After about ten tries I gave up. I know I know how to tell time.

I've had the same problem when trying to do a search while logged out. The question was something like "there are two horses in the barn. How many frogs are in the barn" and I didn't make the connection for an embarassingly long time

*laughing* I find captchas frustrating too. No idea how I get the word wrong, but I always do. I do know that it is really really hard to prevent spam sign ups on message boards and am so grateful that COTH tries so hard to keep them away!

I am amazed, however, that spammers have still gotten in despite trivia questions such as these!

Well, I just sat here for 10 minutes trying to work out the frog question. What messed me up was that two days ago there was an actual frog in my barn -- a tree frog clinging improbably to a door -- so I started thinking, dang, are frogs-in-barns a thing and I just never noticed it for like 50 years?

    LOL!
I would do the same thing.
I would then wonder if it is one of those math problems that only seems like it does not have enough information to answer and over think it.
