It has taken a few days for the tears to stop flowing. Oh wait, here they come again.
I will never forget the day you came into our lives. The runtiest runt of the Blue Heeler litter. I begged my husband not to get you; you were ugly and shy. But I lost that battle, and I am so glad I did.
Over the years, you became my best friend. You licked my tears, you waggled your butt when I told you good news, you protected me and your kids when dad was deployed for months at a time with the military...you were there with me every step of the way when I lost 60 pounds. You were the best footstool, squirrel chaser, and pillow. You helped raise my kids. I can't ever thank you enough for the love you gave us.
Almost 11 years buddy, and in the blink of an eye, you were gone. I try so hard to be strong, but the tears are constant. I miss you so much Guy- Guy.
I will never forget you, and I promise to bring cheese for when I see you again.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Our Aussie girl was the same age. I think I'm mostly in shock, not really feeling it very much because MrB is so devastated, I am trying to keep it together. But night time is the worst.
(A decidedly unhorsey) MrB knocks over a feed bucket at the tack shop and mutters, "Oh crap. I failed the stadium jumping phase."
(he does listen!)
Gretchen Jackson said, "Grief is the price we pay for love," or words to that effect, when she lost Barbaro. To this day, I think that is a profound statement and it encompasses both the wonderful joy we have with the animals who share our lives, and the devastation that comes when those lives are shorter than our own.
Sending you hugs and the hope that one of these days, the memories of the love and happiness you shared with Trigger will replace the tears.
********** We move pretty fast for some rabid garden snails.
In tears reading this. Bless Guy-Guy's perfect little Blue Heeler heart. Gone far too soon.
<<<<HUGS>>>> to you and DH and your family including the now lonely little JRT who misses his buddy. For 11 years you all were greatly blessed by that 4 legged blue gift from heaven. Not to worry - he's sitting at the Bridge, faithfully and patiently waiting for you.
