Holy Cow!! What a story!!
They faced the grizzly down three times before the bear left. Give this woman and her horse BIG RESPECT CotHers!

WOW. Go Tonk! Go Erin!
There are some people (and horses) that you'd want if you were in the trenches, and they are certainly the pair you'd want at your back.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
HOLY MOLY! What a horse and what a woman!
I have been on many riding trips in bear country and can tell you that horses go into a blind panic when they smell a bear. This is a hugely heroic horse! And not a shabby rider!

Whoa, awesome job, bold horse and ovaries of steel!
And after the horse had a run-away deer crash into it too!
Got a grin out of some of the wording used. I can so totally see this:
Seven of the horses sensed the danger, peeled out and galloped back on the trail toward the barn.
And good for her for buying that horse!
You jump in the saddle,
Hold onto the bridle!
Jump in the line!
Wow, just wow!!!

Wow. Just saw the pic of the horse. He's only two inches taller than my leggy TB but I'd bet he weighs a good half ton more.
What a great story. And so glad Tonk got a permanent home and a new owner out of the deal, too. Looking at Tonk, he surely favors his Percheron war horse ancestors in size, bulk and heart!
Thanks for posting that, Mike. An absolutely inspiring story!
I understand that it's a wild animal in it's natural environment just doing what it does, but dang it, I hate bears.
Go Tonk and Mom! people shouldn't be so surprised when the white horse the hero(ine) rides in on turns out to be a draft cross.
I'm guessing COTHers are a little less surprised than the general population.

Must be a popular cross out west. Mine came from Idaho, was the lead trail horse in the Grand Tetons, and looks just like him, just 1 hand shorter!
Thanks for posting this! I just added it to my FB page.

Great story. I shared it with a friend who just raved about a trail ride she did in the Rockies!! And I am sending it to my daughter as well who did the same ride on her honeymoon....
Great story. So glad that horse got a permanent home now!!!
Good girl! Well played. Well ridden.

Oh WOW. What an amazing story! Sharing this one, for sure!
Wow! What an amazing story! Gave me chills!
Cool story! Imagine trying to top that story when you're sitting around the campfire
Glad it panned out with Tonk becoming a permanent fixture in Erin's life
where am I, what day is it, am I still having a good time?
Wow, balls of steel for both of them! So glad she decided to buy him :-)
WOW - way to go
Thanks for posting MM
