Default Need some jingles for my Beagle, Ginger

My Beagle Ginger stopped eating last week. Took her to the vet, he checked her out, could find nothing wrong and thought she might just be stressed out from the severe weather we've had. He gave her some meds and sent her home. She didn't improve so I took her back yesterday. He did blood work and her kidney function is not good. BUN and creatinine are way above normal levels. He put her on fluids for 24 hours to see if he could flush her kidneys but it doesn't sound good. I went through this a few years ago with one of my dachsies. I managed to give him a few extra months with IV fluids and special diet but I don't know if I want to go through that again. I don't really know if the short extra time was worth it. So I'm afraid I'll have to make "THE" decision this afternoon.

I adopted Ginger from the pound about 18 months ago. I was appalled that someone could just dump their elderly dog at the pound. So I took her home. The pound said she was 8 but she could be much older. Anyway, at least for the past year and a half she's had love, good food, a soft, warm bed and outings where she got to go out and sniff the bunnies and bay like a real beagle.

Awww. No advice other than I believe in quality not quantity. It sounds like she has has an awesome twilight with you and I wish you the best in making what is always an agonizing decision.

Jingles. I had a Ginger who only had about 11 mos of love, soft bed and park outings, before dying of cancer.

Default Update - The jingles must be working

I called the vet just now to check on her and he said she is doing much better. I have to go out of town until Friday so she is staying at the vet's until I get home. I think they will be better able to keep an eye on her than my almost 14 yo daughter.

Did they run a Lyme's test. Some dog with Lyme's have adverse kidney reactions, also Lepto will also sometimes have kidney involvement. You might want to have that checked out on your follow up appt.

Jingles for Ginger from Florida from the former owner of two female beagles, I was a sucker for how cute a beagle puppy is.

Awww, you are an angel. I would have sent jingles even if my name weren't Ginger

Why can't we have more saviors than dumpers in the world? You have done a VERY good thing. Thank you.
