    Default R.I.P. Dekorum

One of our own has lost a lovely, shining star of a mare. According to EN:

Dekorum, a lovely promising young mare ridden by Michael Pollard in the advanced division was put down on scene after breaking her hing leg at the first water, the Mulberry Pond. Michael was uninjured, and the medical/veterinary team responded quickly and dealt with the situation as appropriately as possible.
    ----
Update: I just spoke briefly with Michael who told me that he had had a chance to see video of the incident and Dekorum jumped the bounce combination before the first water successfully. As she was descending 5 strides down the hill to the actual jump into the water, her leg visibly broke from an explosion fracture between the fences, before the jump into the water. It doesn't make it any easier to deal with but it's important to note that this wasn't connected with footing or course design or the actual jump.

I'm so very sorry, JER. There are no words.

    Default Sad news fom Poplar

Michael Pollard was riding Dekorum advanced, and under very unfortunate conditions, the lovely mare of JER's had to be put down. Eventing Nation has made a report.

    My condolences to all.

    Hi Cookiepony,
I was pretty sure it was JER who owned her, but want to be sure before sending condolences. She was a very beautiful, athletic, brave mare. So, so sorry JER. I can only imagine how you must be feeling

Even I don't have words for this.

Like the EN report said, her ankle blew out while galloping down to the water. There's no way to prevent something like this and nothing you can do when it happens.

The Pollards gave her the best of care at all times, right to the end. Please keep them and their extended horse family in your thoughts.

We are all beside ourselves with grief and sadness.

It's a terribly sad thing for all. My daughter sends her condolences, she was a part of Dekorums family at the Pollards. Just so heartbreaking.

I just went to EN and saw this - absolutely stunned...have followed your lovely, talented mare with Mike for as long as I knew she was with him...tears and hugs to you all. So sad for you, but know I'm right there with you. She was stunning and a real event horse.

    My best thoughts,

She was so lovely and talented...and I really enjoyed following her career.
She certainly was doing what she loved.
She was so lucky to be surrounded by those who loved her.

Condolences and a vast amount of sympathy for the loss of your girl, JER.

Horses are so fragile because of their weight and how they are built. One wrong step at speed can be devastating.
