Awwww, darn it. I was hoping against hope for a comeback on the grass for the li'l guy. Probably unreasonably under the circs.

He STILL wants to come home and be my pony, I just know it!

    Default MTB turf debut

Can someone tell me if MTB was ever given the chance to step on the turf once in his life, in particular work out on the grass at least once or twice before that race?
I am under the impression that all his works were on dirt. If this is the case, isn't it asking too much to throw such a big surprise to a horse? Hope I am wrong and missed some turf workouts. Can't say well he raced on synthetic so he must be ready to race on turf cold turkey(?). MTB has been ill-managed enough during the second half of last year and leading to his two BC races neither one of which he should have run. Poor little guy. Grrrrr.....

OMG- had a firster on the turf go off at odd of like 99-1 and finish second.... ya never know. Mine That Bird is not the first to try it and it is narrow minded to blame the connections.

MTB was in there strictly to get a race in. He needed to run to get in shape for his ultimate goal, The Whitney, and there was nothing else available for him (close by I assume). I suppose they could have hoped he'd suddenly catch on fire on grass but his previous performances on synthetics would hint against that! He was originally pointed for a dirt race earlier this week but it didn't fill. Jeez you think they could have run a short field to get a Derby winner on track during the week!

Thanks! I've been in loff with yours for a while too!

Back on topic: from the post-race pics he certainly looks like he still had plenty of gas in his tank.
