
At the FEI World Driving Pairs Championship, held Aug. 29-Sept. 1 in Topolcianky, Slovakia, the team from the United States (Misdee Wrigley-Miller, Rachael Blanchard and Scott Dancer) finished fourth overall on a score of 303.25. All three U.S. drivers finished in the top half of the individual standings.
The Fédération Equestre Internationale has announced the composition of an Endurance Strategic Planning Group in response to the recommendations of the round table held on July 24.
The Maryland Hunt Cup Association has announced the presentation of the 2013 S. Bryce Wing trophy to Maryland’s Walter Wickes Brewster. Brewster, a foxhunting and timber racing enthusiast his whole life, finished second in the 1948 My Lady’s Manor (Md.), fourth in the 1948 Grand National (Md.), and second in the 1948 Maryland Hunt Cup, all aboard Clifton’s Dan.
“While Walter did not enjoy the most successful career as a jockey, he certainly had a colorful one,” said Maryland Hunt Cup secretary Sherlock Gillet Jr.
At the end of July, a round table discussion about the sport of endurance was held in Lausanne, Switzerland, at the invitation of the Fédération Equestre Internationale. Over the course of the meeting, it was decided, among other things, to appoint a commission of experts to analyze the problems in endurance and submit proposals for resolving them by Jan. 31, 2014.
Chester Weber swept the driving test event for the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, held Aug. 23-25 in Caen, France. Weber’s final score of 108.24 put him ahead of Germany’s Ludwig Weinmayr (125.54) and Great Britain’s Georgina Hunt (132.76).
Twelve drivers and 60 horses representing seven nations took part in the test event. More than 200 volunteers were mobilized.
“I was very impressed with the facilities and the organization of these three days,” said Weber. “I enjoyed the marathon.”
