Eventing Short List Named For 2008 Olympic Games

U.S. Equestrian Federation officials released the short list for the eventing squad for the 2008 Olympic Games on May 22.
   
Ten riders and 14 horses were placed on the short list, with three additional riders and four additional horses listed as alternates.

U.S. Equestrian Federation officials released the short list for the eventing squad for the 2008 Olympic Games on May 22.
   
Ten riders and 14 horses were placed on the short list, with three additional riders and four additional horses listed as alternates.

The horse and rider combinations were evaluated based on the overall performance and soundness of the horse and rider combination in those 2007/2008 CCI***s, CCI****s and other specified competitions designated as selection trials, with emphasis on dressage scores, fitness, jumping without faults, boldness, rideability and speed.

Other selection factors included previous international experience of the horse and rider combination, demonstrated ability of the horse and rider combination for success in eventing competitions and the prospect of the combination to win an individual medal or contribute to a team medal at the 2008 Olympic Games.

Additions and/or substitutions to this list may occur up until June 30.

The short list is as follows:
•    Stephen Bradley, Leesburg, Va., with Brandenburg’s Joshua, a 13-year-old Thoroughbred gelding owned by Southern Edition Farm, LLC

•    Buck Davidson, Ocala, Fla., with Ballynoe Castle RM, an 8-year-old Belgian Warmblood-Thoroughbred cross gelding owned by Carl and Cassandra Segal

•    Phillip Dutton, West Grove, Pa., with Connaught, a 15-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding owned by Bruce Duchossois
