It’s cross-country day at the Land Rover Kentucky Three Day Event, but late last night Buck Davidson shared sad news of a previous Kentucky competitor—his mount Ballynoe Castle RM died peacefully in his field at Davidson’s farm in Ocala, Florida, yesterday, April 23.

“Reggie,” an Irish Sport Horse gelding (Ramiro B—Ballyvaldon Natalie, Blue Laser) owned by Cassandra Segal, was four days shy of his 21st birthday. He and Davidson competed at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, and also finished third at the Kentucky CCI5*-L in 2014.
“I had so many amazing days on him, so many amazing days here. I’m so fortunate to have had him,” Davidson said from Kentucky today. “The band is still together: He died with his other national championship buddy, My Boy Bobby, by his side. Kathleen [Murray, Davidson’s groom] is here with me, Carl and Cassie [Segal, his owners] are huge parts of my life and part of Erroll Gobey. I am proud of those relationships and proud of what I think he’s done for the sport. He was a special horse.”
