Versailles, France—July 26

Eighty event horses congregated on the jog strip this morning in Versailles, France, for the first horse inspection of the Paris Olympic Games. Of those, five were sent to the hold box and one was spun upon re-inspection.

DSP Fighting Line, ridden by Lea Siegl of Austria was not passed on re-inspection. Austria did not qualify a team, so Siegl was competing as an individual. Austria still has one other rider in the field, Harald Ambros and Vitorio Du Montet. With the elimination of DSP Fighting Line, 64 horses will start dressage tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. local time (3:30 a.m. Eastern). The draw order has not been set yet.

Four additional horses were held but passed upon re-inspection: Noor Slaoui and Cash In Hand (Morocco), Melody Johner and Toubleu De Rueire (Switzerland), Malin Asai and Golden Midnight (Sweden), and Yasmin Ingham and Banzai Du Loir (Great Britain).

Both Asai and Ingham are the traveling reserves for their respective countries.

After drama ahead of the start of the Games leading to Liz Halliday replacing Will Coleman on the three-person team, the U.S. sailed through the first horse inspection.

The horse inspection happened ahead of the opening ceremonies for the Paris Games, which will happen at 2 p.m. local time (8 a.m. EDT) today.
