The organizers of Great Britain’s Badminton Horse Trials announced today, Oct. 20, that they have moved the dates of next year’s event back by one day to accommodate the May 6 coronation of King Charles III.

The event traditionally falls on the first weekend in May, so holding its marquee cross-country day—which typically draws more than 100,000 spectators to Badminton House in Gloucestershire, England—on Saturday, May 6, would have conflicted with the coronation, which will take place in Westminster Abbey in London. Instead, the event’s schedule has been pushed back by one day so that dressage for the CCI5*-L will take place Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6; cross-country on Sunday, May 7; and show jumping on Monday, May 8.

Dressage on Saturday will start early, then go on break during the coronation ceremony, which will be broadcast live on the big screens set up around the venue, and resume after the ceremony.

“We very much hope with this amount of notice, it will be possible for you to amend your plans and attend as usual,” organizers said in a statement announcing the new schedule.
