The countdown is on to the Land Rover Kentucky CCI5*-L,  with the first horse set to jog for inspection at 3 p.m. today in Lexington, Kentucky.

From the original 75 entries, there have been 12 withdrawals, including two Wednesday morning.

-Waylon Roberts withdrew Lancaster.

– Holly Jacks-Smither withdrew More Inspiration.

“Today I had to make the hard decision of retiring my best friend from upper-level competition. “Morris” was checked in to the Kentucky Horse Park and the vets at the in barn noticed a heart murmur,” Jacks-Smither wrote on her Facebook page. “After running more tests the decision was made to end his upper level career. Morris , thank you for being my constant. You have been with me through thick and thin. You took me from a gallop girl to a 5-star event rider.
“We travelled the globe attending Aachen Nations Cup, the 5-star at Pau France and of course the Rolex Kentucky.
“You taught me that 5-star horses don’t need to be fancy and well bred. They can have crooked legs, sway backs and huge hearts. To say I’m totally heartbroken is an understatement, however I am so thankful that the team at Kentucky found this and he is going to be OK.”

– Clayton Fredericks withdrew FE Always In Time

“They say in eventing, timing is everything, and unfortunately timing hasn’t been kind to us this week,” Fredericks posted to his Facebook page. “Sadly, FE Always In Time had an untimely foot abscess and won’t run this week @kentuckythreedayevent. He should be fine in a couple of days so hopefully will see him compete @jerseyfreshintl. All eyes are now on FE Stormtrooper and looking forward to the week ahead with him!”

-Clayton Fredericks withdrew FE Ophelia.

-Sara Mittleider withdrew La Paz.

“It is with gut wrenching sadness that I have to let everyone know La Paz, and I will not be able to attend Land Rover Kentucky 2021,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “Muki was involved in a freak accident that will have us sitting out for a little while. I am so sad with how close we were to being back to the amazing 5 star, but right now I am just working to making my best buddy healthy and comfortable. A sincere thank you to you all that have been supporting and cheering us on thus far. I do wish this was not the outcome that came from this, but it was truly wonderful to have you all along for this journey. Hopefully we will be able to see it through to the finale next time.”

-Great Britain’s Richard Coney has withdrawn Mermus R Diamonds.

-Oliver Townend has withdrawn Tregilder, and will come forward with Ballaghmor Class and Cooley Master Class.

-Chris Talley withdrew Unmarked Bills after an uncharacteristic show jumping round during their final prep at Fair Hill (Maryland).

“It breaks my heart to have to write this post,” he wrote on Facebook. “This weekend at Fair Hill, what was supposed to be Unmarked Bills final prep before Land Rover Kentucky, it was clear that he was not feeling himself in the show jumping. After being looked over by our incredible vet Dr Theiss and the team of vets at Piedmont Equine, it was an easy decision for Hannah and I to decide that Kentucky unfortunately isn’t in our cards this year. The truth is, it’s an easy decision because his well being will always come first and foremost. We will always, always chose to put our horses first. The hardest part is to see a horse who has given so much to so many, not feeling like his typical self. We are optimistic that he will be back to his fighting self, looking for those cross country flags with a fire in his eyes, but no matter what, one thing is clear to us and that is that he owes absolutely nothing to anyone.”

Great Britain’s William Fox-Pitt has swapped horses and will now bring Oratorio instead of Little Fire.
