After two days of dressage and weather more suitable for ducks, Great Britain’s Leslie Law and Fleeceworks Mystere du Val emerged triumphant (38.0) in the Jersey Fresh CCI*** with a six-point lead over Karen O’Connor, who took the next two spots with Allstar (44.1) and Mandiba (45.0) respectively.

As the rain poured down on Friday afternoon in Allentown, N.J., the last riders to go were treated to a swimming hole rather than a riding arena, but being eventers, there weren’t too many complaints. However, the weather may have affected the standings, because most of the best tests in both the two-star and three-star occurred on Thursday, the driest day of the two.

Law won his latest outing with Beatrice and Guy Rey-Herme’s 8-year-old Selle Francais gelding at The Fork CIC*** (N.C.) He started competing Mystere du Val in January after taking over the ride from Stuart Black.

Kristen Bond grabbed fourth place over Allison Springer and Destination Known in the three-star. Sarah Cousins chose to withdraw The Robber Baron early on in her dressage test when he tried to rear in the shoulder-in after a lackluster beginning.

Carol Kozlowski captured the two-star lead aboard Take Time (46.9) over Kendyl Tracy and Mr. Incredible (47.3). Maya Black rode to third place on Kejsarinna over Will Coleman with Twizzel and Phillip Dutton on Risk Taker. Dutton will be the first rider on cross-country at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Despite the weather, the footing appeared quite good for cross-country, and technical delegate Roger Haller announced that stone dust would be added to any areas of concern on course. He also said the water would be drained down to 8” in the main water complex.

The cross-country warm-up is in the grass, and O’Connor asked Haller to place additional warm-up fences in the all-weather footing arenas before cross-country, which he agreed to do.
