Lexington, Ky.—April 28

One horse withdrew in the hold box and only one cantered down the jog strip in a relatively uneventful second horse inspection at the Defender Kentucky CCI5*-L.

Doug Payne withdrew Quantum Leap, who also was held for reinspection on Wednesday, after the horse was sent to the hold box.

And on a day that sometimes sees airs above the ground from fit five-star horses, today the 24 horses moving forward all behaved themselves with remarkable civility. Only Vermiculus decided the jog strip was better used for a quick canter, causing rider Lauren Nicholson to lose her hat along the way.

The Best Turned Out Horse honor went to Sophie Tullar, who grooms Phelps, currently in fifth place with Mia Farley.

In the Cosequin Lexington CCI4*-S, only one pony was held—Corture, ridden by Briggs Surratt—but she was accepted upon reinspection. Off The Record’s grooms, Erin Jarboe and Hailey Burlock, took home the honors for best turned out in that division.

Four-star show jumping will start at 10:30 a.m. today, followed by the five-star division beginning at 2:15 p.m.
