French eventer Maxime Livio is now provisionally suspended from competing in Fédération Equestre International competitions based on a positive test result for testosterone in a horse, Bingo S, Livio competed in a Thai show jumping competition last November.

Livio is still awaiting an FEI hearing for a positive acepromazine test involving his 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (France) mount Qalao des Mers.

Livio, who helped coach the Thai eventing team before the 2014 Asian Games (South Korea), was catch-riding the 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood (C Indoctro—Varsiana, Riverman) gelding at the CSI-W competition in Pattaya. Testosterone is a banned substance.

“As I trained the full [Thai] team for a year-and-a-half, I was invited by my students from the federation to compete in the contest, and I rode this horse off-the-cuff,” Livio told French website Cavadeos. “I was stunned when I learned about the doping suspicion.

“It is certain that when I can compete again, I will never again get up on a horse on the fly!” he added.

Though Bingo S, owned by the Thailand Equestrian Federation, is suspended for two months beginning Feb. 16, the FEI clarified that Livio’s suspension is provisional. He can request for the FEI Tribunal to lift that suspension, and then the Tribunal may honor his request. If the Tribunal chooses not to lift his suspension, he’ll remain suspended until they announce a final decision. It could be longer than two months.

With Qalao des Mers, Livio was fifth at the World Games, and the French team was fourth. The standing of those placings is dependent upon the FEI Tribunal hearing results for that case, and the date for the hearing hasn’t been announced.
