Dream Girl, owned and ridden by Indra Rapinchuk-Souccar, died following a rotational fall on cross-country at the Full Gallop Farm February I Horse Trial in Aiken, S.C., on Feb. 4.
Rapinchuk-Souccar and Dream Girl were competing in the preliminary division when they fell at fence 11B, a rolled wedge.
Onsite veterinarians determined the 17-year-old Canadian Warmblood died immediately following the fall according to a U.S. Eventing Association statement. A necropsy will be performed to determine exact cause of death in accordance to USEA policy.
Rapinchuk-Souccar, 16, broke her femur in the fall and underwent surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia in Augusta on Tuesday night.

“We all here at Full Gallop extend our condolences to the family and the people who loved the horse,” said event organizer Lara Anderson.
In 2011, Rapinchuk-Souccar, of Cummington, Mass., purchased “Abby” for $1 when her previous owner went to college on the condition that she would never sell the mare. The pair began eventing at novice in 2012 and moved up to preliminary in March 2014.
After winning the CIC* at Little Bromont (Canada), the pair qualified for the Area I junior team and competed at the 2014 Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Riders Championships (Ky.).
“I’ve had Abby by my side for the hardest years of my life, and she brought me so much joy and discovery. From tackless gallops, to skijjoring, to the Gold Cooler series, to sunset trail rides, to NAJYRC she was my best friend. I never thought I could love a horse more and I probably never will,” Rapinchuk-Souccar wrote on her Facebook page.
