Every Second Counts: 2015 WEF Todd Minikus vs. Conor Swail

Todd Minikus hasn’t known Cordonos very long. In fact, the 14-year-old gelding arrived in his barn just two weeks ago.

But that didn’t stop him from riding the Oldenburg to the top of the first grand prix of the 2015 Winter Equestrian Festival, the $30,000 WEF 1 Grand Prix held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Fla., on Jan. 11.

Minikus and Cordonos topped a massive 22-horse jump-off with some of the fastest riders in the world; Ireland's Conor Swail and Grafton finished second and U.S. rider McLain Ward and HH Ashley were third.

AD Camille Z Euthanized At Geneva CSI

Athina Onassis de Miranda’s horse, AD Camille Z, has been euthanized following a fall while competing in the Credit Suisse Grand Prix at the Geneva CSIO on Dec. 11.

The 11-year-old gray Zangersheide mare suffered a fracture in the fall over an oxer on course. De Miranda also fell, but was uninjured. Camille was sedated and transported to a veterinary clinic, but veterinarians decided with de Miranda and her husband, Brazilian show jumper Alvaro de Miranda, that euthanization was the only option.

Amateurs Like Us: Lexey Hall Might Need Another GPS

It was a Facebook status update shared and laughed at quite a bit on Dec. 1. Lexey Hall’s tongue-in-cheek declaration of her newly acquired amateur status put a humorous spin on her new U.S. Equestrian Federation designation. She’s no stranger to a Facebook post gone viral—two years ago, a photo of her “equestrian GPS” spread all over the internet.

Throwback Thursday: Anne Huberth Lived The Glory Days

It was a photo that required that I find out the story behind it. A young woman bends at the waist to accept a trophy from an elegant presenter in evening gown and fur coat. And the rider is bareback, on a gleaming gray horse.
