Lisa grew up riding dressage in North Carolina and graduated from Virginia Intermont College with a degree in English literature. After writing for nearly every publication in Knoxville, Tennessee, she moved to Middleburg and started working for the Chronicle in 2009.

She now lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband, Andrew, and two adorable but ill-behaved dogs, and she spends her free time hiking and avoiding the rain as much as possible. She’s also the proud owner of a retired off-track Thoroughbred mare named Skittles.
