Larry Glefke has inspired a new generation of whoopers.

His legendary whoops reverberated throughout the Ocala Horse Properties Stadium at HITS Post Time Farm, so often that a small group of young horse fans who’d congregated on the berms surrounding the arena began anticipating it as soon as Kelley Farmer landed off the final oxer. And they whooped and hollered alongside in grand fashion.

Until 6 months ago, if you saw Fedor’s name on the start list you might brush him off. The gelding has been a contender in FEI grand prixes, but he was always waiting on the outskirts. But after today, it will be hard to forget his name.

On paper it seemed as though Daniel Bluman was really gunning for the win in the $34,000 HITS Jumper Classic. He finished 4 seconds faster than second-placed Scott Keach. But if you ask him, he wasn’t thrilled by that large margin.

“Looking up at 4 seconds is actually not something that makes really happy because I should have judged better and done the eight [strides in the last line] which was safer coming home, but the result was good.”

Looking at the first-round scores, you would think the United States was going to walk away handily with the win in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Ocala. They were the only team sitting on perfect score, and they a two-rail lead over Colombia.

Eight teams will fight for the top slot at the Feb. 19 Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Ocala, Fla. HITS Inc. has announced the participating athlete list class, held at HITS Post Time Farm. For the second consecutive year, the HITS Ocala event is the only official U.S. qualifier for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Final held in Barcelona, Spain, Sept. 22-25.

The HITS Organizing Committee, in conjunction with the U.S. Equestrian Federation, invited select nations to partake in the event.
