Spectators and competitors at the CAI-B Live Oak in Ocala, Fla., March 24-27, honored the 2008 Farnam/Platform U.S. Equestrian Federation Horse of the Year, Jamaica, as owner Chester Weber officially retired the Dutch Warmblood gelding. Jamaica will enjoy his golden years at Weber’s Live Oak Stud in Ocala, Fla.
• Canadian drivers have always strongly supported the Metamora CDE with their entries, and this year was no exception. Ten of the 36 competitors, almost 1⁄3 of the field, were from across the border, and they went home with plenty of ribbons. Robert Thomas won the training level single horse class with Tfal Skywalker, and Gord Freeman with UCM Govenor Cornwallis took the blue ribbon in the preliminary single pony class.
Carole Precious scores an advanced win in adverse conditions with her star performer.
Frank Sinatra’s classic lyrics, “Come rain or come shine, high as a mountain, deep as a river,” fit the occasion perfectly as Carole Precious and her 10-year-old Oldenburg named Sinatra won the advanced championship at the Metamora Combined Driving Event in Metamora, Mich., June 19-21.
The Swedish driver beats some big names.
Anna Nordin earned her first U.S. Equestrian Federation selection trial win by beating veteran drivers Bill Long and Gary Stover at the Southern Pines CDE on April 10-12 in Raeford, N.C.
Nordin’s team of Dutch Warmbloods and one Holsteiner is owned by Patsy and Seth Wooten of Wilson, N.C., but the young Nordin, a native of Sweden, is hoping to drive them under the Swedish flag at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.
As the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games loom ahead, drivers get ready.
Individual World Four-In-Hand Championship silver medalist Chester Weber left his competition in the dust—literally—at the U.S. Trust Live Oak International Combined Driving Event, March 19-22 in Ocala, Fla.
• Peter Tischer from Germany, who has been hired by the U.S. Equestrian Federation to coach the four-in-hand drivers on a monthly basis leading up to the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (Ky.), was pleased with his drivers’ performances at Live Oak.
