COTH blogger and Olympic commentator Steven Wilde relays his emotions at seeing Nick Skelton take the title. "I've always tried to maintain a little professionalism along the way but when I called home the gold in Rio I don't mind telling that there were tears running down my face," he wrote.

When I set up to write this blog, I promised I'd knock out a missive at least once a month; well already that's turned to custard!

I finally grabbed my breath on a plane to Madrid, though with a pre-5 a.m. start to catch my "delayed" flight (we are working to Spanish timetabling), it may be a slightly delirious one. So, in my true addled brain style, I'm going to cover a few weeks in May backwards! I hope you're following closely.

For all of those that think it's all celebrity parties and stunning locations for the life of a showjumping commentator—well it's partly true...

However, I'm sitting at my desk in yet another hotel, this time in Miami, with the fire alarms blaring as they run through a test, which is making me concerned about the safety of the glass on my desk and the wind outside is making my room sound like I'm living just off the runway at JFK airport.
