I sat yesterday reading Sinead Halpin’s latest Chronicle blog and was quite impressed and inspired by what she wrote. My heart broke for her when I found out a few days ago that she lost her dad suddenly. I can't imagine what she's going through. The timing of reading that and then her dad passing is just devastating.

I know it's been quite a while since I've blogged, and to be honest there are so many things I'd like to share with you all that it's a little bit overwhelming to think about where to start.
It's hard to say what the most special part of a memory is when every part of it is something you’ll remember for forever... And it's great when it's one that memory is a good one, but with horses and life there are a fair few that are the other variety... The not-so-good ones. They say you need to experience those bad ones to appreciate the good, and I would say from my personal experience thus far in life that that statement is true.
I was lucky, at a young age, to get a job working under show jumper Susie Hutchison, a woman who had a profound effect on my riding career and life.
I remember going to work for her at Indio, Thermal, Showpark and a lot of other venues in Southern California. I very honestly was completely out of my depth and at first quite overwhelmed by the experiences, but I grew to love the scene of it all and truly enjoyed jumping the young horses for her.
Well since my last blog I feel like life has been a little bit of a whirlwind. If you’re just catching up, I broke my collarbone schooling a young horse on March 1. As you can see in the picture, I busted it up pretty good.
In my last blog I spoke out about the selection process, which is a pretty sticky thing to get involved with. However, I am very confident in our Active Riders Committee. I think our country will end up with a good coach regardless of the upset of the process.
I am often hesitant to take a stand and put my opinion out there when controversial subjects arise, but over the past few days I have had time to sit and really think about the fact that Bobby Costello and Phillip Dutton did not get named to the short list for our future Chef and Technical Advisor.
The season is cranking up, and we are well under way here at Red Oak down south. We started off the year with the lower level horses running at Sporting Days.
Greetings to everyone from lovely Aiken, S.C., where it is not as cold as I feared it was going to be.
I’ve had quite a trip—from Wellington to Ocala to pick up horses for my friend, then to Aiken where I got in at 3 a.m, and then back to Pennsylvania the next morning to pick up six more horses. I got to Aiken yesterday late afternoon!
After three days on the road I am feeling a bit rough and a big thanks to all my friends who were on the phone with me the whole time keeping me awake.
