I suspect we’ve all got them. Places that bring on floods of memories. The old neighborhood. A school.

For me, a walk around the campus where I went to college triggers recollections of a time when my head was full of a youthful mix of confidence, confusion, and insecurity. And, of course, dreams. Some were foolish. Some came true. And some, to my occasional regret, I didn’t pursue. It’s a story that everyone can tell.

When we last spoke, I introduced you to Alex—known to his friends and admirers as the Dark Lord of Show Jumping.  He’s my daughter Audrey’s horse, and most of the time he goes by the less colorful “Alex” or, more formally, “Legado.”

People ask me if I ever get a little bit scared.

He’s an off-the-track Thoroughbred, foaled in Michigan in 2002, named Aerospeed, and raced seven times over the summer of 2005. He’s got more than a couple drops of Native Dancer’s blood, but neither the results nor the racing charts suggest that the racetrack was where he belonged.
