Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

  • Video of Gauguin de Lully - does anyone know where to find?

I am looking for video of Gauguin de Lully and can't seem to find any. Does anyone know where I can find it? I was trying to find video of the 1988 Olympics because I know he won bronze there, but haven't found any video from that either.

Please help me web searching gurus!

    Thanks!

You might want to contact Carol Ives of the Ultimate Piaffe. I know she was handeling his frozen semen for a time. I don't know if there's any more of his frozen left. www.ultimatepiaffe.com She also had a Gauguin de Lully mare for sale for a time, Gauguin's Impression. I don't know if the mare sold yet or not. Gauguin's Idea, the dam of my stallion Bravo, was also for sale at one time but I would have to do some research to find out if she sold.

There is a son of GDL, Gaugin du Cheval, standing in the US and his owner/breeder might be able to help you with some video. They do have pics on their site:

I have a VHS video of him that was sent out when Carol Ives had his semen. I'm not sure what is on it, and don't have a functioning VCR now. If you have one, I'd be happy to mail it to you. You can keep it. E-mail me privately with your address. My e-mail is:

I have two mares who are grand-daughters of Gauguin de Lully and I would LOVE to see a video of him. Please share! Both of my mares are (inexplicidly) fabulous jumpers but both are also lovely, lovely movers. Mine are by Draco, a SWB stallion by Gauguin de Lully out of Mimi (by a TB stallion out of a SWB mare by Utrillo) out of Trakehner dams (one by Ith, one by Inspekteur).

Actually your boy's dam did sell; to me!!! That's why I'm looking for the video.

She is a lovely, lovely girl and I am in love with her! I've only had her for a week but she has been wonderful. I am SO excited about her. If Bravo is anything like her then you're lucky to have him. I can see where he got his metallic sheen from too.

I'll PM you with my info, would love to chat with you!

Bravo is a wonderful stallion with wonderful movrment and awesome jumping ability. I had bought him as a dressage stallion and was shocked to find out he was such a competent jumper. It turns out Gauguin de Lully was a GP jumper as well as a Olympic dressage stallion. I just love the lines.

Congratulations on your purchase of Gauguin's Idea. What a wonderful mare!!!

That is SO interesting to learn that Gauguin de Lully was also a jumper! It helps to explain why my little mare is such an awesome jumper -- she's just 15 h and is winning at Level 3 and schooling higher. The only jumper blood (I thought) in her pedigree was Habicht, her great grandsire on her dam's side. My other mare's dam was a very talented jumper, so her ability is not so surprising. These two mares have the most incredible work ethic and are both as smart and quick to learn as they come. If your new mare is anything like mine, you are going to love, love, love her.

I have all the VHS tapes from the 1986 World Dressage Championships at Cedar Valley, Ontario. They list Gauguin de Lully and Christina Stuekelberger in both the Grand Prix Team competition and the Special. Now how to convert to digital.....what about copyrights?
(I was at the judges forum there, so saw everything in person, but that won't help either......)

Ack! I had a huge long post that I wrote, had to work for a moment then came back to it to post. And I had been logged out. Arg..

So the gist was... Not again, I would love to see your video. I would be happy to reimburse you for any conversion cost & for a copy. Let me know!

Chris - I adore your boy, would love to talk to you about breeding plans I have for his Mom. After all, you know the best his strengths & weaknesses! Mainly Gauguin's Idea (now barn name Bronté) will be my riding and competition horse, but I am thinking of an embryo transfer for her next year.

She is a wonderful, amazing horse. I've never ridden anything like her. Her gaits are awesome, but her willingness under saddle- wow! She has impressed me every day that she's been here with her calm, willing attitude and her personality.

I LOVE this horse. She's my dreamhorse, and has a place for life with me.

                      fyi:
                      GP Special (Individual) scores:

!. Marzog (Anna G. Jensen) Denmark 1447 (and as I recall received no 8's but then no 5's either).
                      2. Gauguin de Lully (C. Stueckelberger) Switzerland 1416
                      3. Ideaal (Jo Hinnemann) FRG 1387
                      4. Pascal (Reiner Klimke) FRG 1381

                      GP (Team) scores:

                      1. FRG: 5075 (Ampere:1682; Ideaal:1709; Pascal: 1684)
                      2. Hol: 4876 (Olympic Duco: 1577; Robby: 1628; Amon 5: 1671)
                      3. Sui: 4864 (Orlando CH: 1626; Xanthos: 1539; Gauguin de Lully: 1699)

The Freestyle at that competition served as a Consolation class, so horses placed below the top twelve did a freestyle, the opposite of today's methodology.

I try to find about converting to digital......and let you know!

I have a 14 year old gelding by Gauguin de Lully (frozen) out of a Hungarian Warmblood mare - he is double registered as SWB and Hungarian Sportlo. When I was desperately looking for video, a friend bought me 'Champions of the Kur' 1986 - 94. There are 2 performances by Gauguin de Lully on here, 1987 at Essen and 1988 at s'Hertogenbosch. I don't know how to get them off video and on to digital but I'm sure it has been released on DVD.

I was thrilled to watch him and see how much he looked like my gelding.

                                  Thanks everyone!

Maryanne - you are wonderful! I just received the video you sent on Saturday. It was great to see all the pictures and video of my girl's dad! I really liked that it had his baby pictures, pictures of his siblings jumping & all sorts of fun stuff.

Not Again/Anne - don't worry about the conversion if you haven't already done it, I found and ordered a copy of 'Champions of the Kur' 1986 - 94 that Browndog referenced. I think it would be the same footage?? It was here: http://www.justhorsevideos.com/items...840-detail.htm

Thanks everyone! And for the rest of you that are looking for video, I am going to try to find a way to convert the ones that I have so far and post them to youtube or something. It might take a little while though.

Just a random question, but those of you with Gauguin offspring - do your horses have zebra stripe & dorsal stripes? Gauguins Idea/Bronte does, and along with the gorgeous metallic sheen she is a very unique color. I've never seen zebra stripes on a warmblood before. And Chris - have you seen this with any of Bravo's foals?

I haven't decided exactly when I will breed Bronte yet, I may wait another year with the economy and focus on our showing next summer. But when I do Bugatti is definitely a consideration, but I would also like to try other crosses for her also. I'm really interested in Real Diamond, Hampton, Romanov, Royal Hit and Sir Donnerhall. But it's all just dreaming for now, we'll have to see how things stand in the spring.
