Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

What are her dam lines again? I can think of SEVERAL stallions I would like to breed her to if I had her.
Thank you. She has not had much done with her in the past and her history is pretty questionable, but she just had three months professional dressage training prior to purchase. She was *very* green when the trainer got her, so I would like to believe she has not been worked very hard in her life, and therefore will be sound for quite some time

She is out of a thoroughbred mare by Bold Tropic Who would you suggest?

I just heard back from the ATA...Her sire was inspected in 1999 but not approved, and neither she nor her son have been inspected. Yikes. Where does that leave me?

I did....she looks great! She sounds pretty wound up though. That doesn't supprise me given the amount of time she really didn't do much. I know Sue had issues with her standing in the cross ties when she first arrived as well so hopefully with some work she will come around.

Glad you got it straightned out - the office staff had a turn over not too long ago and poor Clarie was thrown in the deep end I think. With your mare's sire being inspected so long ago it doesn't surprise me there was a glitch!

Anissa, out of curiosity, what stallions do you like for this mare?

Edited to add: Shannon, I will be at the Trakehner Convention too! It would be great to see you there and if you want, you can just bring her to the convention and I will take her home with me when I go.

Are you saying that she was just started as an 11-year old? I am interested because I bought my Lafleur x Casar mare as a 13-year old from her breeder and put her into training at age 14 when I decided not to breed her. I was told that she had been trained to first level, but, seriously, if that ever happened, she forgot everything she ever knew because she was green, green, green when we "re-started" her last spring. Anyway, she still gets upset about things that you would expect a youngster to get upset about, but she gets better every week and we've recently taken her to a couple of local schooling shows and she's been wonderful. My trainer says that she will probably last a good deal longer than if she had been a show horse all her life. She is barefoot and has no chiropractic issues or any soundness issues of any kind. The one thing that we've noticed is that because she's of a certain age, she sometimes gives us a look like, "No, really, you don't expect me to do this, do you? I think you should you just brush me and love on me and give me my treats."

That attitude could just be a mare thing LOL - I have a filly (o/o an Anglo TK mare and she has the same attitude as does her two sons as well as this filly) that KNOWS she is "the bomb" - just ask her! We call her the princess (even have a rhinestone "stall lplate" that goes to the shows with her LOL).

As for who I would breed her to? This is just for me mind you - some of these might have a little too much length of back or add to the "heat" of the mare's temperment, but just for what would intrigue me breeding wise (and without seeing any of the mare's movement etc - I'm just going by bloodlines and what I would hope to get) in no particular order:

Apache (thinking outside the box on a few of these)
                          Special Memories
                          Horalas
                          Steinberg
                          Oskar (of course )
Impressionist (ditto - but it would help with temperment and shorten the back)
Hailo (for the same as Imp)
                          Favian (outside the box)
                          MAYBE Fandango
MAYBE Eisenherz - haven't seen enough foals or them in person to really know for sure
                          Blitz and Donner
of course Tate (although would be a gamble on what he produces this year but he has the movement and a shorter back and jumps)
If Frozen is an option -
                          Hirtentanz
                          and Arentino

That would be my starting list (didn't really do any of the guys from overseas except Hirtentanz - was trying to keep it to American owned - or Canandian) and then based on the mare/stallion etc could narrow down from there.

Do you have your mare's registration papers ? If so the letters and numbers can tell you if she has been inspected. Or give me her name , and I can check to see what her status is. If she has not been inspected and is eligible, there are mare inspections at the ATA Convention near you in two weeks.
It woudl be great to meet you there !

If you go to the convention''s show and inspection, take a look at the colt Past Midnight by Schiffon out of the outstanding hunter mare Promises to Keep. I saw him as a 3 week old and he was fabulous and apprently is growing up to be quite stunning.

Schiffon himself has been developed as a dressage horse, but his 100 day test score in jumping was well above average (scored 109, placed 10th of 32)and he has offspring in eventing, 1 that showed as a hunter in Florida and one that I know of in S-jumping (~1.4 meter) in Germany. Schiffon has proven ability to improve/shorten the topline and has a fabulous, rock solid temperament.

You can see pics of the jumping offspring here: http://mysite.verizon.net/resxgr86/g...orinc/id4.html

Wow, finally some comments on Special Memories. Before I bred to him (expecting for 2009) I searched and searched for the forums for opinions on him and his offspring. I am happy to hear good reviews, as I am just dying to meet my new baby this spring. [it will be by second foal]
My mare's grandsire was Preussengist as well.

Proudly belong to Guinness, Jasmin, and Chloe.

Hijacking a bit here, but luvmyguinnypiggy, when is your SM foal due? Mine is due May 11th if she goes 342 days. Last time, she totally surprised me and foaled at 321 days so I'll be getting ready earlier this time. There are several SM offspring at Brooke Kemper's family's farm in McGaheysville VA.

ShannonD, loved the video of your mare -- she really is lovely!

Special Memories has the most wonderful pedigree! I would breed to him in a heartbeat if he were not grey. Another one in that category is Silver Twist. I don't know if he's approved or not (haven't checked yet) but he has awesome bloodlines too (by Abdullah, out of a Good Twist mare who is out of a half-sister to Jet Run).

I bred to a Trakehner named Advocate a few times, owners are fantastic to deal with, got a couple of very nice foals with super dispositions. I'd recommend him any day. He's getting older so might not be around much longer.
