Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

I wonder why Farewell III and at the same time Benidetto (that is you mean with bendetto - right ?) should be a super cross. Those are two stallions so much not alike as they could get.

I would not go with Hotline. It seems very strange but the only good ones I have been told about seem to be in the US.

Quaterback ? I dunno. I am not fond of Quattro lines.

Farwell III represents super rideablility and is more on the heavier side.

I may would consider Rosario. That would add substance, too. But he also stands for very high rideablity.

Rousseau I like as stallion and it is a shame he is not here anymore. A person I know used him, but I have not seen the foal from this year. I ahve not seen too many by him, but most certainly I like what I have seen in pics and videos of his son that was so good in last years stallion test. Wamberto his name ?

You might also consider Schroeder -- tall, rectangular, leggy foals, with lots of movement and very nice characters. He also jumps well so you wouldn't be sacrificing jump for movement. Available fresh at Majestic Gaits.

What about Prince Optimus? He's been successful in both dressage and jumping, he has a good personality, and a beautiful canter. He's a refined type of warmblood but not as extreme as some of the Sandro lines.

Donella - thinking outside the box a bit. What about Pablo? He is a very good jumper and has excellent movement.

I know that Marefield Meadows has had excellent success with their Pablo - Saloniki mare (2 licensed stallions and granddam of a 3rd licensed stallion) when they crossed her to more dressage-type stallions. They also have another Pablo mare (Partita). http://marefield.com/index.cfm?actio...dividual&ID=21 (website is out of date)

Papagena's most recent licensed stallion son is out of a D line stallion (Dauphin). You can see him here at www.woodridgefarm.com

I know that I truly love my Pablo filly out of my Gold Luck - Weltmeyer - Brentano mare. This filly is sensitive but also really people oriented and if at all nervous about something, she will listen to the human vs continuing to worry about something (very trusting). She is a super mover too (at least as good as her dam was). Here are photos from DAD 2008, where she did very well despite being at least an inch higher behind (10th and 7th in classes of 25+). She scored in the higher 70s at DAD (and as a foal scored 79+).

More photos as a foal here
          http://mysite.verizon.net/vze85onr/id28.html

I also know of a Gold Luck - Pablo - Weltmeyer gelding that has been in the top 12 for USDF HOY open each and every year. This year he is about 12th at 4th level with a median of over 69% (and is a full sibling to one of my mares). So Pablo can cross nicely with dressage bloodlines.

Just a thought since he is fresh cooled, can jump, and doesn't take away on the gaits. And despite what you hear about Pilot, at least my Pablo filly and grand daughter of Pablo are not spooky, hot, or difficult.

Pictures are on my website www.RiversideEquestrian.org of the colt and his video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79DEOiX4apo

You would have to e-mail me for pics of the filly unless you can tell me how to post them here.

The dam to the filly is Rosenthal/Glucksplitz. The dam to the colt is Karon/Ramino/Welt As. These were to very different type mares and both foals are lovely with excellent gaits and dispositions. He def adds length of legs and a sweet, trainable disposition.

The other Sinatra foals I have seen have all pretty much been lovely too.

I wanted to line breed back to Donnerhall but was worried about the hind end / leg conformation. They can have very short croups and straight hind legs. Nothing to worry about if it already a good sound, performance horse but do not want it in my breeding program.

I do adore Sir Donnerhall though and I love his foals that I have seen so maybe it just depends on the damline?? Lots more lovely choices if you are willing to go frozen though.

Donella..the mares we bred to Rousseau, one was a older style mare whom most definitely needs a stallion who passes on length of leg and the other is a Zeoliet mare who doesn't need that so much.

Both were First Premium foals with the KWPN, the one out of the older style mare is named Armani and he won the weanings class at DAD with a 89.9% in 2005, he also placed 2nd (I think) as a 1 yr old at DAD. You should be able to see pics of them on my web site.

I've seen several Rousseau offspring, many foals and quite a few under saddle. I would say he stamps his gets and the ones we have had here have been wonderful to raise.

We are expecting a Wamberto foal out of the Zeoliet mare in 2009.

Oh we have a Pablito colt this year who is really nice. Very leggy and probably the best canter I have ever seen on a youngster on the farm. Canters everywhere and only now has just started to show off his trot which is pretty darn nice too. The mare is a small WB 15.1h and this colt has plenty of length of leg.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I left this thread when I went on vacation for two weeks and then I remembered it when I got back.

Now that I have seen Mighty Magic, he is certainly a good option. I REALLY liked him, not only just standing there, but really when he was being ridden....so awesome! But then..how much tb is too much? This filly is from a Longchamp / Akzent II / Perser xx mare...

I also really am a fan of Rouseau but it seems with his offspring I either love them ..or...the opposite. To be honest, the ones at the liscencing were too big bodied and large (for their age) for my taste...but then, maybe with a more refined dam it would be fantastic?? I am not sure, but I don't think Rousseau's jump??

I wonder about Belissimo M as well. I have heard that they tend to jump decently? This filly has a super hind leg so maybe this would be a good one??

Donella - with Ferro and Ramiro Z close up, I'm pretty sure that the Rousseaus can jump if you ask them. :-) However, if you think that the Rousseau foals were too heavy then you definitely should not look at Hotline. I was blown away by the substance and size of my filly and it's going to take a long time before she will grow into all that.

I've seen a few Pablo foals but I also seem to remember that I was concerned about lack of size... Can somebody here with Pablo foals set me straight on that, please?

P.S.: I've had a Sir Donnerhall colt out of my old-fashioned Gelders mare and he is pretty spectacular......

Well, I can only comment about my Pablo foal (maybe Edgar will chime in too), but lack of size is NOT a quality I think that I will have to worry about.

My yearling (2007) Pablo filly is out of a 16.2 hand Gold Luck - Weltmeyer - Brentano II mare. As a long yearling (I just sticked her) who was born in March 07, she is 15.2 3/4 at her withers and 15.3 3/4 in her hind quarters. Many who have seen her have commented on her size and body that she looks more like a 2 year old than a yearling. I string tested her from the coronary band to the mid knee and she was around 16 3/4 to 16 7/8 inches.

Seigi, you saw her as a foal on my memorial video to her dam Ghlycerine (the filly was born via ET). Here she is now at DAD: http://stacylynnephoto.exposuremanag...mf/panache-549

You may not like my suggestion but speaking first hand from the owner of a somewhat hot Don Frederico/Matcho mare, I bred mine to Rotspon-twice, I love the temperaments of both boys. Her first one is a clone of her, looks exactly like her and is turning gray as well, he did not get as much length of leg as I would have liked but it was a bit of an improvement. This year's colt is VERY leggy, also laid back, much more refined and very pretty. I was going for temperament and got more than I thought I would. I know I would not have chosen a Sandro Hit son for her. The colt that Seigi was referring to is beautiful but also hot (it is not Terri's colt)but belongs to a friend of mine, don't get me wrong-he will be a wonderful horse, just not one that I would want to ride-that is why there is vanilla, chocolate and strawberry...

I thought she mentioned she wanted Hanoverian approved? You are correct, Rosenthal is a LOVELY horse and really stamps his offspring but is not AHS approved.

I was going to comment about Rousseau and forgot, so I will add my .02 here-my trainer suggested him for my Don Frederico's dam. I didn't want to go there because I don't want tall offspring but I can tell you that I LOVE Wamberto and he is at the top of her "date" list! I like his size and well, pretty much everything about him, so you might want to consider one of his sons instead. I have heard consistently wonderful remarks about his offspring and their temperaments.

Wamberto is, I think, an impressive stallion. However, I believe he is only 16.1.

Oh, his info says that Rosenthal is a "Hanoverian" stallion but I didn't check to see if he is approved.

Most of you know how I feel about all this chasing zillions of euro registries around every time a mare owner tries to make a good decision on a stallion. Silly and counterproductive.
