I am interested in trying to breed Appaloosas who are versatile, hardy, intelligent, sporty, etc. What I believe the breed is supposed to be. I am still doing more research to refine what my goals are and how to reach them. I would like to try to keep alive what the breed is supposed to be. I was inspired by my own Appaloosa. Who is sired from a long line of Appy studs, but his father is, unfortunately, not registered. His grandfather on his fathers side was. His sire's side has some racing history in it, and were capable jumping horses. His mother is a registered QH but not of the "short & wide" variety. She is 16hh and well proportioned and balanced. More what I grew up knowing a QH to be.
Unfortunately I can't get as much information as I would like about his pedigree. He was bred a few miles from me.... I found him as a yearling and approached the people to see if they wanted to sell him. They ended up giving him to me, signed him over and everything. They just wanted him to have a good home. They enjoy coming over to see his progress and went to a show this summer to see him go in a couple flat classes. He's 4 now. He's not registered as I mentioned his sire is not... but both his sire's parents were registered Apps. I could hardship register him but I don't see the point.
Here is a picture of him as a 2 yr old:
