Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Thanks for being a part of the COTH forums!

Pertaining to the people that have judgements against her for money owed would the "excess" not be used to pay those judgements?

I have no idea how that all works but was just curious.
Yes, just as if she sold the horses, but it's not the MHS' job (or legal right) to pay that money to the creditors. Unless there is a bankruptcy in play, I believe it is JB who is obligated to pay her creditors (probably the best thing for this whole mess and everyone involved would be a bankruptcy filing/trustee management).
Your crazy is showing. You might want to tuck that back in.

    • Can you PLEASE just accept that you don't know the circumstances and STOP speculating? You are just talking to hear yourselves talk. It changes nothing and is putting out there as fact things that aren't even pertinent to the case! The people ACTUALLY INVOLVED may or may not post the truth as things evolve. But that is THEIR CHOICE!

As far as judgements go, a simple judgement for a specified amount does nothing for the holder of the judgement. A judge then has to rule how, or if, you go about collecting ( wage garnishment, seizure of assets, etc.). It doesn't happen automatically and I haven't seen anyone who holds a judgement state that they have access to any of the GFF holdings. That is why it is SO important that everyone who is owed by her at least get a judgement against her. If/when the horses and property are seized, there needs to be a piece of paper saying you are entitled to some of it. Otherwise, it will all be dispersed with no regard for money owed.

        • LaurieP, I get your point but please stop yelling at people.

This case is a big deal to the horse world in general. Why is it so wrong that people want to discuss it? Of course we lack facts. Lacking facts does not stop any thread from happening. Because you know facts and want to stomp around and say no one else is allowed to discuss it is not helping.

She has hired a lawyer who I assume is in CA to handle it. To me that would make far much more sense than jumping on a plain and making a scene at MHS.
He's been there for 2 weeks now, and yes, we know about her "lawyer". More than adequate time to find out how the horse is. If she cannot update fine, maybe she should change her FB message then.

I'm not questioning if she is doing the right thing, my point was that I'm not sure if I believe that money has actually changed hands. Only saying what I would do if I was the legal owner of that horse. Jeesh.

By a quick count the auction bids are over 10k for THREE horses that were seized due to body score! Plus whatever was donated directly! That is an amazing response.

I just hope hope many of you have also donated towards the MANY other horses that have been seized from much worse situations! Think what that amount of money could do for those 30+ horses.

I know where I have chosen to send my money!
I disagree, as someone completely outside the sport horse breeding world I think it is refreshing to see them take care of their own! From my own work in rescue I know a group NEVER gets as much in donations as it spends on seizures.... and I am amazed that the community has responded so well and so quickly.

As this case drags on and on and on and the mares foal etc... any that DO go to auction will have had their return to health paid for by folks who may or may not ever get one dime but who are repaid in the simple fact that it helps HORSES.

Anyone doing this much work for the possibility that they might get a chance to maybe bid at an auction that may or may not occur as a straight up bidding event..... is playing really bad odds.

Also, those on the East Coast who could foster but are too far away, check in on those Morgans! I'm sure help is going to be needed there and sounds like more well-bred, pregnant mares and unhandled youngsters that could use a hand up.

I'm going to go bid on the horseshoe in the auction now, since I don't think I could use a stallion breeding on my parrots! LOL

                • Trub, that would be lovely if said discussion wasn't also trashing a good person and her business. People read the speculation as fact, further disseminating bad information. How does that help anyone? There is plenty to discuss of Jill's sins and the wonderful things like the auction and the stallion owners stepping up. It also allows the people with agendas to pursue them.

Wow this thread has gotten off track and nasty. I logged on today to see if there were any VALID updates and it's been endless pages of bashing etc.

Where is it documented that the legal owner can't find any info? And honestly, at this point, who would want to share it here? Is anyone taking into consideration that the new owner of RS is beyond stressed out over this too? Why keep dragging anyone you can into this bashing. Let's move FORWARD and await what public facts come out. Everything else is heresay and drama.

I'm glad to see the auction is helping. The best thing for ANY of those horses is to land safely in new homes. With such a saturated horse market as it is and people on really tight budgets, finding homes willing to take them should be the main thing here, not who else can be thrown under the bus.

And no, I don't personally know JB or Rhonda, but am concerned for the horses. Isn't that why we're all supposed to be here?

The supposed owner says it right on her FB page, and I believe it is also in the articles that were posted earlier. I have zero dog in this fight, I do not own a Stallion, but have been heavily involved in breeding and selling horses (some high dollar) for years.

I havent bashed, just merely speculated on what my practices (and professionals that I have dealt with ) would do if a similiar situation were to arise. I for one will be relieved to see all of these stallions, mares and foals go into competant hands sooner than later.

I agree that people buy horses sight unseen all the time, and there's nothing wrong with that. Up to the person doing the buying. However, in this situation to buy sight unseen? When there have been pictures of her "facility" posted for months, reports of her not allowing vets and shippers on the property, dead foals, lawsuits, misrepresentation, investigation by the humane society, and many, many reports from buyers of their mares and foals arriving sick/unthrifty/thin/wormy/without papers/etc, etc, etc? No way in he!! would I ever buy something from that situation without me (or an agent I paid on my behalf) laying hands, eyes, vet, and camera on said animal and verifying that what I was buying was what I thought I was buying.

And I'm in no way saying that RSF did not do this. I have no idea. I certainly hope she did, and she seems like a smart businesswoman. But as to the above quote, I think you'd have to be a fool to buy even one of those bicycles sight unseen from this situation.

We are talking about a breeding stallion here not say a top level jumper whose value is determined on him performing wonderful athletic endeavors when he gets to his new home.

Purely guessing but I would suspect the breeder who purchased this horse expected him to show up in a less than stellar condition.

Quarantine, good feed and good care can turn that around as long as he can still breed mares.

                                    • I would say that "less than stellar condition" might be the understatement of the year at this point. I don't believe that we are talking about a horse in the 4 or 5 figure price range either. I've personally witnessed how 6 figure horses are sold, and yes, some of them were breeding stallions, that is the part of the reason I shake my head and have the questions that I do.

Super, thanks for sharing! Looks like some folks are kind of slow on paying. Hard to donate the funds if they aren't collected. :-(

Love seeing new items added ... I'm off to bid!!

                                          Thanks for all your efforts!
