Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Thanks for being a part of the COTH forums!

  • Equilibrium,
We have not purchased a horse from Gray Fox Farm. Although she has many we would like to purchase. Please do not speculate about us. If you have a specific question please email me or PM me and I will answer.

    • Thought I read that and said as much. Guess what, I was you. And I'd be much better off in life had I listened when people gave warnings. But hey, when you get paid the "voices" are just naysayers who were lying because they had a vendetta against this poor misunderstood person. I defended and believed right until it was too late.

What I can tell you without a doubt is that someone ends up paying alright. Make damn sure it isn't you. I do business a lot differently now. I don't give a crap if your name is Queen Elizabeth, you do not get away with squat. Sob stories, don't care. People have misunderstood you, again don't give a crap.

I am sorry I got it wrong. But not for the advice I'm giving out. Hopefully you will be in the minority in that it works out.

I think they may have been here on coth as well.

Yeah, she is going to take you all to small claims court.

Because well, I doubt her lawyer would be representing her, being as they have an outstanding judgement against her for... wait for it... unpaid bills. I know, surprising!

so, Jill who has warrents, and a long list of outstanding judgements against her, is going to take you to small claims court. And prove a loss of X amount of dollars (but under 10K because it is small claims)....

            yeah... ok.

OK - thats a helluva great idea!

"Please *LIKE* True Colours Farm on FB and for everyone that does, you will be entered to win a free breeding to one of our stallions. Please also be aware that due to circumstances beyond our control we may not be able to actually GIVE you the free breeding that you have won or if we get too busy, we may not be able to actually draw a name for a winner, but please rest assured that our intentions are sort of honorable and we were actually THINKING of giving someone a free breeding. And oh - if we do and if you win and cant get hold of us? Keep trying - maybe eventually someone will pick up the phone or respond to your email ..."

And if you dont like the restrictions that we have put on the free breeding that you might win? Tough luck - go and tell someone who actually gives a damn ...

              There!

Individuals who have court and other legal documents showing the case and any judgements can certainly post the public information online - it's easy to scan docs and post them. That would be very interesting reading and bolster the case of individuals who say they have been harmed and cheated.

I have never met anyone from GFF but have enjoyed their blog/forum whatever the hell you want to call it. And find the quality of their horses/foals to be of excellent calibur. I have also heard numerous counts of GOOD business transactions.

OP I'm sorry this has happened AGAIN!! Shaking my head ... another case of widespread openly fraudulent activity facilitated in the equine industry!!
JB is gonna get to the end of her rope IF the RIGHT PEOPLE (ahem!!) stand up to her. How is she showing youngsters in here on the east coast??

Fortunately, the horse registries are responsive!! I'll suggest you report this situation in writing to the NGB (national governing body) of the equestrian sport the USEF. JB can't gather POINTS if they show the filly ...she may abandon the filly if she can't get Leading Breeder, Leading SO & Leading Whatchamaycallit Points.

I am in the process of a USEF dispute for a filly "secretly" foaled at a hunter show barn. I owned the mare & bred her to my stallion..leased then sold her with a caveat if she was in foal I got the foal. A year later.. ..she's bred by another person (who didn't pay a cent for the vet & stud fees) , is now not a WB/TB but represented as a pony cross and showing as sire UNKNOWN...I didn't rename my boy UNKNOWN either!! She's winning every time she shows.. but her USEF points won't count. Fraud is just wrong!

Any victims out there?? It may be advisable to combine representation to provide the Court with a full view of the scope of the problem. Let me know I'll put you in touch with other victims.
If you don't know me.... I'll be glad to provide my " hard earned, Been there done that, can't believe they think this will work, Federal Court, FBI, Attorney General witness and anti-fraud credentials!! "

Maybe Roy Parker is a "paralawyer" like Danny DeVito's character in John Grisham's "Rainmaker".

Is someone here good enough to track down all of the judgments against JB and list them here? Is there enough bandwidth?

I see Redwine has finally made the list of USEF TOP HUNTER SIRES! (Hunter Sires aka sires of horses that actually JUMP). He is currently #437 on the LIST.

Hmmm... Then there is the #2 USEF HUNTER BREEDING SIRE Ragtime.

Oh LOOK Ragtime is #18 is on the list of USEF TOP HUNTER SIRES. HUNTERS the horses that actually jump.

                        #437 compared to #18.

Yes; I am sure clients who want prospects that JUMP would want to look at the Hunter Sires rather than Hunter Breeding Sires.

I sure wish the OP success in getting her filly back ASAP.

On the west coast people don't really care about hunter breeding, so there are generally only 3 breeders/trainers that show at these shows and entries are always fewer than a handful. Some shows all the entries are by the same breeder, so easy to get up there in the rankings, especially when you have lots of foals. It's hunter breeding, just a beauty contest. It's the under saddle scores that really count. How many go on to be go proven show horses?

I just saw this filly's photo circulating on facebook the other day....now I know why. I wish the original poster good luck on getting her filly back.

SMALL CLAIMS COURT: You are not allowed to bring a lawyer to court with you. You can consult beforehand, but must represent yourself in court.

                        What Is Small Claims Court?

Small claims court is a special court where disputes are resolved quickly and inexpensively. In small claims court the rules are simplified and the hearing is informal. The person who files the claim is called the plaintiff. The person who the claim is filed against is called the defendant. While you may ask an attorney for advice before you go to small claims court, an attorney cannot represent you in court.

A natural person (not a business or public entity) may file a claim for no more than or equal to $10,000.00, with a few exceptions.

If you have a claim for more than $10,000.00, you may file your action in the Civil Division of the Superior Court. You may, however, waive your right to any amount over $10,000.00 and file the matter in Small Claims

If you are a business required to file a fictitious business name statement, you must include your statement number and date of expiration on the claim form. You cannot file a case in small claims court without a valid fictitious business name statement.

Perhaps those who have had bad dealings should also file complaints with the Better Business Bureau. You can do that online. You may also want to check and see if there is a current business license and permit.

How does it work if someone in CA tries to sue a Canadian resident for defamation? Just curious. (I bet it's even tougher if the plaintiff stiffs her lawyer).

She foaled 3 weeks ago. It was a 3-in-1 package, pregnant mare and foal at side (the one in question). The seller was able to get the (then pregnant) mare back but was told that the filly was away at the trainer for show prep and so she couldn't pick her up.
