Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

  • speaking of "alters" ... anyone else notice that over half of kmsuds posts are on JB/GFF threads, SUPPORTING JB and GFF, and they came out of retirement with no posts since 2011 in January 2012 to comment (favorable things! ) on the now closed JB/GFF thread in Jan 2012 and all posts since then have only been on JB/GFF threads?

JUST sayin ... ... draw your own conclusions ...

And wow. The TB's in my breeding program are useless / worthless for ANYTHING other than for someone's breeding program?

    Im crushed ...

It MUST be true because JB claimed it is so?!

Someone better call up Gail and tell her Jill B said breeding TB's is bad. I call not it.

I'm pretty sure Gail has all of that under control, takes any comments from her with a pound of salt and for sure seems to be doing JUST FINE with breeding A Fine Romance!

I feel honored to know you care enough to check my posts. If you read those posts you might have to rethink your "alter" theory.

        • "I'm still amazed that in this economy someone can be keeping very large (40 some) mare bands (breeding every year) and selling off the foals or young horses with sufficient income to support all of the mares, unsold youngsters and stallions. Even adding in stud fees - from my calculations it just doesn't work.
Adding up annual shots, worming, trimming, feed, coggins for the mares and stallions and then layering on the same for the foals (who do require more shots the first year). Now drop in the big $$ - feed and I just can't see how it works. And I'm a financial person.
In order to stay afloat (without outside income or a trust fund) short cuts must be happening somewhere in the list of what horses require for acceptable equine management, breeding and raising. JMHO"

I agree with that conclusion--I think anytime you look at a breeder website and see they are putting 20-30 some foals on the ground a year in this economy-- (that means likely unsold ones from prior years) -- supporting 30 some mares and plus some stallions --all allegedly being supported by their breeding business sales (allegedly not by outisde income or an inheritance) it has to raise these same questions.

Laurie, I respectfully disagree that I was arguing with people that are choosing to share their stories. The stuff I was reading was not personal experience they were sharing "others" experiences , insulting the stallions and going so far as to insinuate the offspring of GFF stallions were somehow not going to be saleable.

I found that offensive to be coming from another stallion owner and was simply stating my point of view about how I as a customer am turned off by that stuff.

And then again a stallion owner chooses to call me an "alter" because I chose not to say anything negative about GFF and say I only post about their threads, when if you read my posts it is quite clear that she is wrong.

              • There are a few other new mares coming, shown on her website.

24K did well showing, I wonder why they aren't going to continue to compete her. Is it the usual thing to show in the early years and then just go to the breeding shed before they really prove themselves? I'm not a "breeder" so asking if this is a normal practice.

                24K
                Popeye K x Holy Cow
                16.2hd mare

24 K is the full sibling to HOY Wow. She's got an excellent temperment and a 10 jump. Pretty mover. She's a once in a lifetime mare. Crossing the hunter lines of Redwine and Popeye K will be a perfect combination of looks, brains, movement and jump. She will be bred to Redwine for a 2013 foal. See Nursery 2013 for inutero prices. Many thanks to Trainer Leslie Nelson for this amazing opportunity

                DELILAH
16.1h Dark Bay Holsteiner mare by Coriano

Delilah is proven hunter broodmare, the dam of HOY - Outstanding. We are
so excited to have this wonderful hunter mare join our broodmare band. Pictures coming. She'll be bred to Redwine for a 2013 foal. Inutero price 10,000.

I have to say there are several of her mares that I really like, and generally I don't like mares.

Please re-read my original post below. My post was not meant as a personal attack. I was simply stating my opinion that people should be allowed to share bad experiences to prevent them from happening to others. This was our personal experience and I just said that I knew of others who had been in our shoes and then shared our personal experience. I apologize if it offended you.

Worse, she has bashed other stallions and breeders through the use of alters and friends (confirmed via IP addresses when we were on the receiving end of one of her bash fests). In our situation, she was using multiple alters and was saying that she was various professionals all with the same negative opinion of our stallion. She was also sending PMs to anyone who inquired about our stallion advising them to "run not walk" from him. We are not the only ones that she has done this to. Since she has been "outed" on the forums, she has now created an "educational" blog on her website which she is using to the same purpose.
I understand where you are coming from and totally agree that things tend to get out of hand on the forums. Initially, I tried dealing with it by not responding, but the negative comments, emails, and private messages escalated. At that point, I provided factual replies to the lies that were circulating but more alters were created to try to disprove my facts with comments that substantiated the lies. Only when this person was publicly outed and the alters banned, did it stop. Right or wrong, we were forced to deal with it in this manner. The offense that I take is that she continues to hurt others. Please forgive me for caring about the welfare of my peers!

Yes, I have! Around the time he was presented to AHS (and approved), she had it circulating that he had DSLD. I didn't even know what it was and had to look it up. Really????

                    • Silvercreek I have re-read your post, and in turn I would ask you to do the same. I have NEVER suggested someone not post their concern or their own experience. I simply do not want to be attacked for posting mine.

Your post was talking of friends who had issues etc, then SO using an "alter" to bash your stallion.

I was just accused of being an "alter" so if I say something bad about a stallion it's quite easy for that stallion owner to say "oh it's an alter bashing". I am not saying you weren't telling the truth, I just prefer to see situations where the lines aren't blurred. And again as I said previously I just think it looks worse when it's stallion owners representing their own business doing the bashing. Just my opinion.

The Sonoma County website says that it is posting records through 4-4, and they are not showing a foreclosure deed recorded. I am guessing it did not happen, or if it did, the bank bought the property back and has not gotten around to recording the deed yet.

Either way, she is in default on her mortgage. Is in default on her feed bill. Is in default to her attorney. She is in default to John French and others who have sued her and won.

Edited to add: She hasn't paid her vet either, he has an abstract of judgement against her.

I am sure she owes more people. These are just the ones that took it all the way to court!

I think it should be sung from the roof tops so that other unsuspecting mare owners do not send her MORE HORSES because she is STILL collecting them.

The is in no financial shape to be acepting additional horses. Who is selling feed to her after she never paid her last supplier? Where is she going to board all of these horses if the bank evicts her?

The solution to her fixing the minimum of her problems is sitting in her barn. When businesses get in financial trouble they liquidate. It is a bitter pill to swallow but necessary. There have been friends of hers that have come and attempted to explain that she was over faced /just swamped busy/yada yada. It seems less horses would kill two birds one stone.

If she halved her herd and sold off a few of the mares or even a stallion or two she could pay her bills and start to fix her reputation.

                                    • I'd say the mare owners need to get those mares out of there pronto.

                                      • i don't know this Jill person, and , since I have worthless TB's, apparently will never do business with her (tongue firmly in cheek, lol). but beyond the property size, and the care the horses may or may not be getting (from NY, how can i know?), the legal issues that she's having would be enough to scare me away. it's not like this is one person filing lawsuits against her, this is a series of vendors, suppliers, etc, that have all filed claims against her. and that raises serious red flags for me. if she can't pay her feed guys or her vet, how is she caring for these horses? it's a logical thought process, whether you know her or not.

So, Jill no longer owns the ranch. Wonder where she is going to put all of these horses. She JUST aquired another mare.

Amazing.... wonder if she is going to mention a "relocation" on her blog?
