Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Hunter Stallion Suggestions?

I am planning to breed my premium Oldenburg mare (Alla Czar x TB) this year and am having a hard time deciding which stallion to breed her to. She's about 16 hands, great mover (9+), good jumper but not exceptionally round.

Conformationally, I would like to add a longer neck and a longer stride to my mare yet still produce a refined and not too big (16 - 16.2 hands) hunter. A good mind and temperment are a must!

    Suggestions?

You may want to take a look at Ironman, he has a fabulous jump, and is very round. Stride is no problem with him as he did jump Gran Prixs. The last picture of him below, is Ironman at 18 jumping for fun.
He also has a wonderful ami- friendly temperament that he passes on. His neck is to the longer side, and he has a great shoulder angle for jumping. Also things he passes on. He is approved both Oldenburg registries as well as several others,

Please have a look at our stallion White Star. Ironman is also beautiful, however you would be the best judge which stallion suits your mare in particular.

According to the Director of the Oldenburg Verband, White Star has a very good neck. I have seen nothing but very good necks on his foals.

White Star is this year's USEF Hunter Sire of the Year! You probably know his famous Hunter Derby winner Jersey Boy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbOi1FUXxwY

From what I can see from other foals, he would produce something 16.1-2 with your mare. This of course depends on the genes of your mare, whether she will tend to throw smaller or taller foals.

Please have a look at the following links:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIRZx...eature=mh_lolz

White Star has an exceptional temperament. He received 10/10 for both Temperament and Ridability during his 100 day test in Germany, where he has a new world record score. On our website, there is a video of him being ridden by a 5yo girl.

To give you an example of how easy his foals are to start:
This is a 4 yo, second time under saddle. He is being ridden very forward by a dressage rider, but you can see that ridden more hunter type it would be a very nice hunter - very easy type to train.

Jump tecnique/bascule: Have a look at the jump on this young SPS mare in Germany, you may want to watch in slow motion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceitD...ure=plpp_video

6yo Whitney at Young horse Dressage championships. I know you ride hunter, but anyone can appreciate this horse!

If booked before Feb. 1, the stud fee is $1000 (fresh semen collections additional).

Hope this helps you in your search!

I will second Ironman! I have a lovely filly from him, IronRose http://www.herselffarm.com/IronRose.html who will be debuting in Hunter Breeding this year. Her dam; Mal's Mystery who produced a USEF Zone Reserve Champion in Hunter Breeding, G. Bedaczzled Herself: http://www.herselffarm.com/DazHunterBreeding.html with an Alla Czar son.

I LOVE what Ironman gave me, as not only is Ironrose a stunning filly, she is also the sweetest, kindest foal with a 10+ way of going. She is gem to work with. Definitely the type of cooperative personality you want on a foal. Ironman is a proven sire of Gorgeous babies, He was USEF Hunter Breeding Sire of the Year in 2007, with the National Champion yearling in Hunter Breeding and in 2008 his son Ironrule was National Reserve Champion, just ONE point shy of Champion. Ironman has many lovely offspring in hunters, eventing, and show jumping and produces 10+ movers. That is a tall order for any warmblood stallion.

Also look at my Sparkle Herself http://www.herselffarm.com/sparklepage.html whose sire, Cardinal 846 combines Zeus blood with Inshallah blood. This is a gorgeous mare, and will give you an idea of what that combination could produce.

Zeus is the sire of Alla Czar and Inshallah is the grandsire of Ironman. Proven combination of pedigree for quality, looks, and movement.

I am breeding back to Ironman this spring due to the exceptional results of the first breeding.

Go look at Gray Fox Farms..

              She has four stallions

She has crossed her Redwine stallion on an Alla Czar mare and Redwine passes on what you are looking for.

I believe C. Quito was also crossed on an Alla Czar mare...(dont totally quote me on that)

Reach out to Sakura Hill Farms - they have the above referenced Alla Czar mare and have put her also to Cunnigham and Crown Affair.

But your mare's type may be different....

Apiro seems to stamp his foals consistently with exceptional jump and movement and improving the mare's conformation, though he does throw size. Silver creek was a joy to work with. I am expecting an Apiro foal in march, the anticipation is killing me!

While I couldn't be more pleased with my Redwine filly I would be hard pressed to recommend anyone use their stallions when there are so many other options where you don't have the SO worries. Just because I was one of the lucky ones doesn't mean I would sign someone else up for the ride.

Yes, we have used CQuito on Czola (Alla'Czar x nice TB mare).

That foal is due late May and has already been sold in utero. We did use Cunningham and Crown Affair with Czola for 2010 and 2011 foals, respectively. Because we do not know what Czola's jumping ability is as she was injured in the pasture at a young age, we seek to breed her to successful derby horses to maximize the jump aspect. We also breed for more substance. Recent photos of Czola can be seen at http://www.facebook.com/SakuraHillFarm, in her album if you scroll down. There are also photos of the Cunningham and Crown Affair foals on our website, http://sakurahillfarm.com,under "Young Horses". Each of the two foals that we have seen to date certainly validate a repeat breeding, but it would be hard to replicate the fanciness of the Crown Affair filly!

We unhesitatingly recommend any of these three stallions and their SOs are exemplary in their helpfulness. Alla'Czar mares are highly sought-after, so enjoy yours and her foals!

Czola (our Alla 'Czar x TB mare) has been crossed with Cunningham (2010), Crown Affair (2011) and is currently in foal to C. Quito (2012) as mentioned above.

Here is a conformation shot of Czola

                          Photos/information on her foals:

                          Cunningham colt
                          Crown Affair filly

With Czola we seek to add length of leg and size (she is only 16.0h). She has good flat kneed hunter movement, but could do with some elasticity.

The Cunningham colt was a very elastic mover, however perhaps not the most "hunter" type mover. He was very correct and Cunningham certainly added substance, but perhaps not a tremendous amount of height.

The Crown Affair filly to us was ideal. Crown Affair added the length of leg that we were seeking and gave us a very elastic mover with the necessary hunter flat kneed movement and that extra bit of flash and typeyness.

                          Hope this helps!

I would agree. My Alla'Czar / Bonjour mare is in foal for her first foal to our stallion, Richard. I am very anxious to see the cross. That foal will be owned by someone in west Florida. I have two people already interested in the 2013 foal.

No. If you do a search here for "Gray Fox Farm", you will come up with some interesting reading. There have also been some messages flying around Facebook in the last few weeks in the "caveat emptor" category. Some of the disgruntled players include well known BNT's.

I am aware that Redwine is EVA positive, and that alone would rule him out for me. Add to it the controversy surrounding Grey Fox Farm and the issues mare owners have encountered receiving breeding certificates and the fact that the stallions registrations aren't always current (from what I gather reading this board) and that would result in a big, definite NO in my book. Too bad, because she does have some nice stallions.

Breeding horses has enough inherent risks associated with it. I don't need to add risky stallion owners to the mix.

Emil Spadone has a young stallion that will have his first babies on the ground this spring. The stallion is amazing and he has the best temperment ever. He is the ultimate hunter, amazing mover and jumper and quiet, quiet, quiet. I'd breed to him in a hot second. He showed last year in the Baby Greens and he will be showing in Ocala soon.

The pictures on his website don't do him justice at all. In person he is stunning.
