Love this thread. www.paardenfokken.nl was mentioned as an internet resource for damline research, and while it is wonderful and I refer to it all of the time, bear in mind it is not necessarily COMPLETE, there can be many horses missing from the database.

Forum rules and no-advertising policy
As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.
Board Rules
1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.
This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.
Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.
Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.
2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.
3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.
4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.
Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.
Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.
Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:
Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.
Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.
Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.
Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.
Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.
Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.
Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.
5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.
6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.
If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.
Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.
7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.
8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Stallions with spectacular damlines..who are they?
Collapse

I'm not sure if this counts as spectacular but Silvermoon has a successful damline. His dam has produced two graded stallions (Silvermoon and Schampus, both of whom have competed at FEI level dressage) and a daughter (Syvari) who has recently produced another graded stallion in Symont.
The granddam is only recorded as having one offspring but the great granddam produced yet another graded stallion (Schubert who himself produced a big tour dressage horse). And the great granddam produced a mare whose line produced the graded stallion Stresemann.
And Silvermoon himself has produced the great Matine and international GP horse Success from very few mares.

Oakstable yes, Schubert did stand in the US, at Ridgecrest Farms. He produced a stallion called Galileo who competed up to Inter 2.

Silvermoon has been in Germany for many years where being grey is a huge crime.
He was used as a racehorse trainers hack for several years as there was no demand at all for him as a stallion. And then Matine burst onto the scene.
His son Cadeau is one of the most popular Trakehner stallions in Germany. Cadeau is bay. I'm not sure how much Silvermoon is being used even now but his studfee has shot up! Silvermoon is the stallion I'm using for my mare this year. I hope she scans in foal.

ALL of them do...and then the value of the mare line is determined by what it produced!!!!!!!!Originally posted by Waterwitch View PostThis is slightly OT but are ALL Holsteiner marelines given a stamm number, or is it just those lines which have produced approved stallions that are numbered?

Very interesting reading about Harli Seifert's breeding mareline can be found here http://www.pferdezucht-harli-seifert...idcat=4&lang=4
And my all time favorite mare ever is Loretta the dam of Sandro Hit etc...It's not true that I had nothing on. I had the radio on.”

The stallions DaCaprio and DeLaurentis here in the US both come from the same damline. The mare Kiks (Laterit x Kilady xx) is the granddam of both, and they are out of full sisters (Caprimond x Kiks). Interestingly, both stallions are by Donnerhall sons on the top.

So what have Loretta and her family produced in the performance department? I mean aside from the fact that Diamond Hit (who I adore!) is the only descendant who went out and showed beyond his 6yo there is a remarkable discrepance there between show/sale successes and performance don't you think?Froh zu sein bedarf es wenig...

Just an observation here having read your comments for years now, but you all really have a thing about Paul… what’s the story on that? Sounds like the green eyed monster to me. For all your criticisms of his collection (which includes Chacco Blue, Cento, For Pleasure etc.), where are all these stallions that are doing more for the Sporthorse market world wide? Not to say that there aren’t other great stallions (and Kudos to Edgar)… but how about some recognition for what Paul does to generate excitement in the marketplace and push prices up. The guy is not perfect, but who is? IF you guys don’t want Paul (and his collection and his marketing abilities), we’ll take him over here any day, warts and all.

We were talking damlines not stallions but it is quite revealing you seem to not distinguish between these two things
As far as stallions go I have never picked on PS collection as a whole. If you think I did please show me the thread instead of turning around what I said here or elsewhere.
I have even used stallions of his repeatedly and I can say with good success. This thread has recently turned into a direction where we've discussed the difference between a performance damline and a spectacular damline.
Go check your yearbooks. There isn't anything beside Diamond Hit that has competed at the higher levels. The most predominant fact these horses have in common is they have all sold for a ton of € at some point in life or at least thought of as the reincarnation of dressage and then pretty much went downhill. Show me the GP-competitors and where the string of sporthorses is that marks a successful damline over the generations. I can assure you you won't find them as there aren't any... But of course it is much easier to accuse someone on a bb of having a personal grudge against some stallion owner when all they've ever done is to point out proven facts.
Funnily whenever the facts come on the table there are a row of people quite ready to grow very loud to jump at PS's defense when in fact he himself probably couldn't give a rat's *** as this kind of chat is completely irrelevant to him *LOL*.
Someone on horsegate went to the bother of doing stats on Lewitz' studfarm and surprise surprise from all those 5000 foals they say claim they have put on the ground there over 10 years, there are no more than 250 altogether who ever did anything recorded in the FN yearbooks as of 2008. I know you hate it when you are wrong but PS is definitely a better salesman than a breeder and I don't think he cares but simply follows his own vision which is perfectly fine.Froh zu sein bedarf es wenig...

I knowOriginally posted by talloaks View PostCartier, Paul was over here, he owned Chestnut Lawn Farm in VA for years!!
and I agree, let's ask him back... it would save a ton of $$$ on shipping fees.
When we evaluate dam lines one criteria we use is the stallions they have produced and what those stallions have done and produced. Not sure what all that reveals ... you always seem to come to the discussion with so many a priori assumptions, it’s hard to know what filters through.Originally posted by Kareen View PostWe were talking damlines not stallions but it is quite revealing you seem to not distinguish between these two things ;.
As for the rest of your post, boy your positive observations and compliments about Schockemöhle just can’t come fast enough. Thank god you aren’t on some harangue about him, can’t imagine what your posts would be like then.
Bottom line, I think most breeders and buyers look at what Schockemöhle has accomplished for Sporthorse breeding and the market in general (compared with what his critics have accomplished) and then go forward accordingly.

I may be repeating part of this thread but has anyone mentioned Special Memories dam Kluwall, she is as well the dam of Olympic double gold winner Touch of Class and multiple steeplechase winner Crocodile Tears.

This shows the mareline of Loretta. Except for her herself, there has been nothing spectacular from that mareline (actually nothing at all, in fact, it only goes back a few generations).Cartier

Compare that to Diarado or Fuerst Romancier or Bordeaux (also at PS) and you can see a big difference.
