Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Stallions with spectacular damlines..who are they?

Thoroughbred dam lines can also be problematic as there is usually not a generational breeding of show jumpers, but rather they are usually coming from lines bred for racing.

With that in mind, Kluwall xx produced Touch of Class xx (olympic.GP competitor) and Special Memories Trak/xx (GP/FEI competitor) from a limited number of foals. Interesting is that her dam line came directly from the great bloodstock xx breeder and writer Abrahm Hewitt (wrote for the Bloodhorse) and partnered with breeder/trainer B.F Christmas. Kluwall also interestingly is a direct descendent on the mare line of Fifinella the only mare to win both the Epsom Derby and Epsom Oaks.

Other trivia is that the Abram Hewitt/B.F. Christmas breeding partnership shows up in the mare line of the newly approved xx stallion (several stud books) in Germany that ran over fences Timolino. (My guess is that Hewitt bred to produce athletes, whose genetics it turned out, were good for more than just the racing discipline!)

On the trakehner side, Abdullah's dam also produced multiple good and great horses-but I am not familar with her mare line further back but I do not think it was a accident.

Hmm, yes, a huge part of having a successful damline developed here is getting those offspring into the right hands!

So..who are the DRESSAGE stallions with the super damlines? As I mentioned before, Quaterbacks is exceptional..I beleive over 20 liscenced stallions have come from this damline..as well as the famous Poetin. You just can't ignore this!!

I was also very excited about Daddy Cool when I saw the video of him. Super, super moving horse. Really suprised he isn't "the next big thing"....and that is interesting about the damline...there is some versatility there forsure.

I think that Olivier (Owillie) has one of the better damlines out there right now, AND he's American-bred.

His dam came from strong multi-purpose gelderland lines, and she herself produced numerous FEI horses in both dressage and jumping, including 3 grand prix dressage horses.

Every descendent of that mare that I've seen has been a complete powerhouse.

The young BWP stallion VanGogh B has a very impressive damline as well. The foal I got on the ground this year by him is really, really nice.

I agree about Daddy Cool. He is a very neat stallion, and I would love to see more offspring.

Londonderry, Don Ricoss and Wallstreet Kid, who stands here in the US, are out of the same damline, also.

I believe that the dutch stallion OO7(Rubinstein/Doruto/Amor) would fit the bill. I believe that his dam Gelbria is the full sister to Olympic Barbria.

Yeah, I bought a 00 seven colt last year ...as a project gelding and though I am not too familiar with KWPN lines I was really impressed when I did some research on OO Seven. He is quite the producer as well.

As for Daddy Cool, I have not seen any jumping footage but apparently he won the jumping and dressage portions of his test. He is also "the favorite" Schockenmohle stallion of Isabel Werths. His stud fee is pretty reasonable too.

Another stallion is Le Primeur...apparently his damline is quite good as well with siblings competing at the top of sport. He is now at spruce meadows and although his test scores were not INCREDIBLE, his combined breeding value is second only to contendro's!

Hey... you forgot Concerto Grosso!!! His dam got "9" for type and comes from the same Stamm (Stem) = motherline as Cicera's Icewater.

Autobahns pedigree also is especially interesting to me as they bred Ramiro and have some of the finest mares in the (jumping) world. With proven (Ramiro's heritage etc) / there is potential cross-over to other disciplines.

I must say that I agree with most if not all of the above.

We do not have the relevant statistics in US to have much significant data to see who has produces well here, Caracas (by Cor de la Bryere), Abdullah (OK, they may be spooky but he did put a few winners on the ground), Contango, Columbus, Rio Grande (all deceased) and others have IMO produced well...

It takes TEN YEARS at least to see who is a good sire in terms of progeny performance. Outstanding dam lines? Yes, the ones I think are great do have them. Life is too short to breed to a "maybe", I do want a solid dam line behind it,

Campesino comes from an exceptional motherline, Holsteiner stamm 6786. His mother, Nixe IV by Sacramento Song, is considered a "Blue Hen" mare who has produced daughters who in turn have produced outstanding offspring. A full sister to Campesino is the mother of the 2007 European Champion, Chessman. Another full sister produced the great mare, Quante. Other full sisters have produced Grand Prix jumpers here and in Europe. Campesino is the sire of Grand Prix champions. Derek Petersen's grand prix mount, Cisco, is from this same motherline. Nick Edmunds' GP jumper is out of a full sister to Campesino...stamm 6786.

We have several stallions with exceptional motherlines in the US. To name a few who are from notable German stamms:

Camiros, Lord Capitol, Acclaim, Acord III, Acorino, Caballo, Cabaret, Chaleon, Cicera's Icewater, Concerto Grosso, Con Caletto, Cotopaxi, Landstreicher, Laurinn, Love Affair, Roller Coaster, Liostro, Cisco and Campesino.

I totally believe it's all about the mares. As one example, I bred a mare from stamm 730b (direct motherline of Caletto I and II) who was sired by Ramiro who is from the motherline 776, to Campesino, stamm 6786. Luckily, the pairing produced a daughter who now has a consolidation of all of these magnificent performance genes. Every mother in the pedigree, top and bottom, is from an important motherline. This filly, and others bred just like her, will be part of our future breeding program. I'm only one of several breeders in North America who breed according to this philosophy. I think we're going to be producing some excellent sporthorses on this side of the ocean in the not too distant future.

Totally! Still, there are not enough NA breeders who understand the importance of the damline. But when you look our most successful breeders, what sets them apart is usually the depth of mare quality in their programs.

                                        Killer motherlines

                                        Cabdula du Tillard

His mother Quanagra (Galoubet A), the sister of Jalisco B, produced Viking Du Tillard (Narcos II, ISO 185) who jumped for France in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics as well as winning many international classes. Balladin du Tillard (Paladin des Ifs) was already a successful international stallion before being bought by the famous stud at San Patrignano, where he completed his international career and now stands at stud. Cabdula du Tillard (Abdullah, ISO 174) owned by PHI Group, won numerous international Grand Prix and jumped many times for the French team, he now stands at stud where he has started to influence Belgian sport horse breeding as well. Morgan du Tillard (Narcos II, 2000) is the last of the children of Quanagra, he has already competed in the finals of the 4 & 5 year old’s at Fontainebleau with a score of ISO 136. In breeding the daughters of Quanagra have produced fantastic results at auction. Havana du Tillard was herself sold at the World famous FENCES Elite sale for 40,000€ in 2000, a record at the time which has only been equaled since. Fee du Tillard (Paladin de Ifs) was also sold at FENCES Elite for 30,000€ in 2004. At the same sale, the Burggraaf foal of her sister Elektra du Tillard also sold for 30,000€.

Cabdula's Grandmother Tanagra (Furioso xx), is one the most famous broodmares in the history of sport horse breeding. A Grand Prix class at Fontainebleau has been named in her honour. Her stand out son is Jalisco B (Almé, ISO 169) who performed at the Seoul Olympics in 1988. One of the greatest sire of all time, and named “chef de race” in French breeding. His sons include Quidam de Revel, Dollar du Murier, Papillon Rouge and over 40 other Selle Français approved sons. Both on his own account and that of his sons, he has had an enormous affect on the Selle Français breed, and on other foreign studbooks. In the 2005 FENCES Elite catalogue, Tanagra appeared in the family tree of 80 of the 101 lots. Tanagra also produced Danoso (Night and Day, ISO 178) who was sixth at the European Championships and in 1976 and 78 he headed the list of winners in France. Escurial (Night and Day, ISO 145) was an international winner under Italian colours. Kioto II (Nykia) was finalist in the five year old’s at Fontainebleau and stood as a private stallion. Nykias (Nykio) performed in the show jumping sport and stood as a private stallion. Oviedo (Night and Day, ISO 128) was a finalist in the five and six years old’s.

Tanagra’s best performing daughter was the International show jumper Geisha N (Night and Day, ISO 150), who as a broodmare produced Kissovo (Starter) who was a performer in the sport and a sire of numerous winners; Urous HN (Elf III, ISO 132) is owned by the National Stud and sired a number of winners; Veneur du Defey (Grand Veneur, ISO 133) stands as a private stallion; Aspara du Defey (Almé, ISO 149) jumped at international level outside of France; and her best son Ephebe for Ever (Galoubet A, ISO 174) a big winner on the international stage and has been approved for breeding by the Holsteiner Verband.

                                          Holsteiner Stamm

This is slightly OT but are ALL Holsteiner marelines given a stamm number, or is it just those lines which have produced approved stallions that are numbered?
