Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Hunter Stallion Suggestions?

I'm pretty sure that I have decided on Apiro to breed to next spring, but I am hoping that some of you more knowledgeable breeders can either confirm that choice, or offer other suggestions for me
The mare is a 15 y.o., 16.1 h OTTB, registered Jockey Club name is Three Mile Runner, if you care to check out her pedigree: http://www.equineline.com/Free-5X-Pe...0mile%20runner.
She has had two TB foals (with previous owner), in 2002 and 2007. I am breeding for my own personal show hunter prospect, and will provide a forever home to both mare and offspring. Her qualities: excellent ground manners, brave to jumps, lovely canter. Her negatives: so-so movement at trot and tends to be quick/heavy under saddle, but mostly due to career change and lack of solid foundation. I prefer a warmblood stallion to add quietness, and also size, as I am 5'8".
I hope this link works for a picture: http://idratherbridingphotos.shutter...m/pictures#n_5
and I'll try to add more as soon as I can dig them up.
This was in the model class at TB Celebration HS, placed 7th out of 16, so middle of the road conformation in a class of retired OTTBs (mares & geldings, all ages).
Please let me know what you think!

I had a friend with a Popeye K filly.... great mind and hunter hunter hunter... I think you can still get frozen from him but it ain't cheap.... $2700 i think...

My filly is by Pacific Star STV, I would urge you to consider him, he is 17h and produces quite a few hunter type babies.

Our stallion Amazing is producing beautiful babies in his first crop this year. They are all super friendly, easy to work with, and the one we bred and have here has a canter that is so slow and balanced he could canter in a teacup! Amazing himself is a beautiful mover and has the unique combination of hack winning movement and a picture perfect jump every time. He is 16.2 and is proving to be a fantastic cross with TB mares. See "Allure" under the "Offspring" section of Amazing's page on our website. She is out of a palomino TB mare and is just breathtaking. Good luck in your search! Apiro is a lovely stallion as well, but just thought I'd mention our guy in case you hadn't seen him

You should take a look at Romantic Star, Elite Hanoverian at 17 H and throws size. www.grayfoxfarms.com is the website. We bred our 16.1 H TB mare to him and she foaled a gorgeous bay filly last week, very tall and elegant, and with just the right amount of chrome - star, strip, snip and two matching hind socks. The filly looks to be a hunter deluxe and is quite easy going to boot.

I love my Sir Wanabi colt, and my mare is in foal to King de Coquerie for next year. Both stallion owners are fantastic to work with, and the King semen was incredibly fertile - my mare caught on both a 53mm and a 32mm follicle with one insemination. (The smaller twin is hopefully getting pinched today!)

Here is my 2010 Apiro colt out of my TB mare (who is also Mr. Prospector as yours is) at three months. I don't have any photos I would post of him at a year , but he seems to be starting to come out of the uglies lately! I LOVE him, and his temperament.

Apiro will most certainly give you size, I can't comment on movement as my mare already has an excellent hunter movement. Foal moves great, but where does it come from? I can't tell. Temperament is also excellent in this foal. He's enormous!

Sir Wanabi will pretty her up, quiet down temperament and you have a good chance at this hack winning trot! He's a lovely stallion in every aspect, I am breeding a mare to him today actually. I can comment in more details on his offspring as he is local to me and I have seen several of his foals.

I have a yearling Apiro out filly out of a Beach Boy x TB mare. The mare is petite, very scopey but does not move like a hunter (esp in the trot).

Filly is big, going to be much bigger than her petite mother. Filly has a lot more bone than mom. She has a very quiet, unflappable attitude and she definitely moves like a hunter (which mom did not). She has a beautiful suspended flat kneed trot and a big canter with a lot of push from behind (mom did too). She goes everywhere with her little nose poked out, I see her winning the hacks
I am very pleased with her and will be repeating the cross.

Please consider Crown Affair as well, I have two fantastic foals by him out of a TB mare, the oldest is 3 and a mover! Check out their pages on our site. I know a lot of people really like their foals that were born this year and Gail is fantastic to work with!

I also really like Aprio and Sir Wanabi.

I bred 2 mares to Sir Wanabi this year. He's a very versatile stallion with beautiful movement, great jumping ability, temperment and conforamtion. His foals are a very elegant modern type with beautiful heads and necks. I'm hoping for a couple really nice filly's for breeding.

I like Apiro just as much. I've seen a lot of his offspring too and they're very nice!

                    Both very wonderful stallions.

Thank you everyone for the replies so far! Sir Wanabi is definitely one I'll have to check out as I had never heard of him before, as well as Romantic Star and Amazing. Popeye K was definitely one of my first thoughts, but yes, his price is a little daunting, and I was told he's got a better jump than he does hack. Crown Affair is lovely, but very plain, and it was definitely the chrome on Popeye K and Apiro that initially attracted me to them- especially with my mare's similar coloring and broad blaze.

Very pretty! I personally love Apiro and everything I've seen by him.

Just out of curiosity, was that picture of your mare taken from the TB Celebration show in Lexington? I'm hoping to attend the November show and have been stalking the photographers page and I swear I recognize your mare from there

Sure was! I paid for the pic a couple weeks ago and finally received my legal web copy this week It was a great show, you'll have a lot of fun if you go in November. I scratched the O/F classes on my doctor's recommendation (think good thoughts for me over the next 31 weeks) and unfortunately won't be able to ride in November for the same reason (hopefully). I might still go to trailer/groom for barnmates though! Of course I'm kicking myself now for deciding to delay breeding this year for more training/showing!

You may want to consider Ironman. He is exceptional with TBs. He adds size, often as much as a hand over the mare. He also throws very quiet, easy dispositions like his own. He is noted for his rideability and the majority of his offspring demonstrate it as well. Ironman as well throws good movement. Below are some offspring by TBs.
All the stallions mentioned so far are lovely, you could not go wrong with any of them.

We are thrilled with our Crown Affair x Alla 'Czar filly. We bred her specifically to add some height (mare is only 16.0h) and maintain a quiet temperament. We will be repeating this cross in future for sure.

I bred my Alla Czar/TBx mare to Popeye K and am really pleased with the results. She has a great brain. I do agree that Popeye K is a better jumper than a mover, however. Our filly doesn't move as well as her dam.
