I just saw on Rideawood Farm's website that they will be offering Totilas at 5000 Euros a dose. Not as bad as every was thinking, although still too rich for my blood. So . . .who's breeding to him?

Thinking about it. Everything has to go perfect for us as in no more unexpected vet bills, etc... up until payment is due. lol My mare isn't getting any younger and she's worth taking a chance on breeding to him even with his unproven status. (9/9/8 wtc Rubinstein I / Warkant mare) 8.22 mpt We shall see if I feel lucky when it comes time to send payment. That will be what decides it. LOLComment

I have to admit that there is a tiny part of me that wants to go for it. I suspect that at least in North America, the foals will sell very quickly this first year, just due to hype. That said, it's a LOT of money to flush down the toilet if the mare does not catch or the foal isn't born healthy.
I dunno, Totilas/Weltmeyer/Rubinstein sounds likes it would be a pretty sellable foal, even if it turns out looking like a mule!Comment

Im not going with hype. If you go by that unless he breaks the siring record of horses like Donnerhall and Weltmeyer (again unlikely since they were the exception not the rule) then in general people going with hype may be disappointed.
I think hes an amazing horse, if not mostly for his presence and athletic ability. I love his sire side and the match with his solid dam line. From what I've heard, Arabian breeders are intensely interested in Totilas, and they think his studfee is mild compared to many of their top stallions. Wouldn't it be interesting if North America ends up with more half-Arab Totilas offspring than through the Warmblood studbooks.Comment

In the discussions about Totilas, we hear a lot of opinions about Gribaldi and his side of the pedigree, and I get that, phenotypically Totilas closely resembles his sire. But there is his dam line as well. Isn't his damsire Glendale, who stood at Iron Spring Farm?
We seldom hear anything about Glendale and what else he sired. We saw Glendale at Iron Spring Farm back in 2000 or maybe 2001. As I recall, he was a gentleman, and about as endearing as they come, but I do not recall that ISF had a huge regard for him. Or maybe a better way to state it is that they seemed much more enthusiastic about Contango, Consul, Rampal Akatchi, and other young stallions like Premier and Rhumba. When you think about it, based upon Totilas alone (and his competition record to date), Glendale may have eclipsed all the rest of those sires as the most influential stallion to stand at ISF, and who knew it? Can anyone speak to other Glendale progeny?Comment

It's strange but I just looked up Glendale on the Iron Spring Farm website, and they don't mention Totilas on his page. Maybe it hasn't been updated for awhile. They do mention another of his grandchildren that was an approved breeding stallion.Comment

I know we have a couple of pretty spectacular Arab/WB crosses competing in dressage classes at the Arabian shows around here, but I didn't realize that it was becoming the "in" thing, so to speak. The foal could be registered as a pb Arabian or in a WB registry if the mare was accepted. I think there is a lot of prize money out there in the Arabian classes, and the pb ones do well...there is a big show barn around here that does a lot of pb crosses with WB's and Friesians, and they are very nice horses. But I think most of them stay in the Arabian classes and don't compete in open ones too much, at least from what I've noticed. I do think Totilas would make a nice cross with an Arab....hmm.

I don't know anything about Totilas/Arabs, etc., but I do know that 5,000 euro is nothing compared to the top stud fees for Arabs (or Quarter Horses for that matter).Already excited about our 2016 foals! Expecting babies by Indoctro, Diamant de Semilly, Zirocco Blue and Calido!
