Board Rules

1. Youre responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the Forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading itdetails of personal disputes may be better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts, though are not legally obligated to do so, regardless of content.

Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting. Moderators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts unless they have been alerted and have determined that a post, thread or user has violated the Forums policies. Moderators do not regularly independently monitor the Forums for such violations.

Profanity, outright vulgarity, blatant personal insults or otherwise inappropriate statements will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Users may provide their positive or negative experiences with or opinions of companies, products, individuals, etc.; however, accounts involving allegations of criminal behavior against named individuals or companies MUST be first-hand accounts and may NOT be made anonymously.

If a situation has been reported upon by a reputable news source or addressed by law enforcement or the legal system it is open for discussion, but if an individual wants to make their own claims of criminal behavior against a named party in the course of that discussion, they too must identify themselves by first and last name and the account must be first-person.

Criminal allegations that do not satisfy these requirements, when brought to our attention, may be removed pending satisfaction of these criteria, and we reserve the right to err on the side of caution when making these determinations.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While its understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and its related to a horse for sale, regardless of whos selling it, it doesnt belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be bumped excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the alert button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your Ignore list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary youd rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a users membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Zenyatta will run 2010; $5M Apple Blossom BACK ON but pushed out (p6)

Her not-being-retired announcement came straight from Jerry Moss today on HRTV at Santa Anita. Kinda not that much of a shock as per say as those recent works were never an easing out of racing program. And John/Jerry/Ann did suggest in late October that a couple of races in 2010 were possible ....

Also: DRF reporting as well 1-16-210

Owners Jerry and Ann Moss told Daily Racing Form on Saturday that the undefeated 6-year-old mare will campaign this season.

"We're going to run her," Jerry Moss said Saturday at Santa Anita.

It was widely believed that the Breeders' Cup Classic was going to be her final start, and Moss thought so, too.

"I got very emotional after she won the Breeders' Cup and thought what better way to retire," Moss said.

Zenyatta, however, bounced out of the Breeders' Cup in top shape and has posted three half-mile workouts at her Hollywood Park base recently.

Jerry and Ann Moss visited Zenyatta on Saturday morning.

"Seeing her today, she's so radiant," Ann Moss said.

The Mosses asked trainer John Sherriffs for his input, and he was fully supportive of running the mare in 2010.

A comeback race for Zenyatta has yet to be determined as the Mosses statement on Saturday was the first official indication that she would continue racing.

It will be up to the trainer to decide when and where she returns, Jerry Moss said.

Wow! Maybe I'm the only one shocked, but I am!

ETA, I guess they don't need to give her HOY now under the argument that Rachel will be running next year and Z wouldn't...
We're spending our money on horses and bourbon. The rest we're just wasting.

I was going to put this on the big Zenyatta thread but saw this one had been started.

        This is quite interesting!

I knew it!! It just was completely bizzare for her to not be under lights in KY and instead working in 48!

That's a little harsh. I don't think they were lying to anyone. Moss said himself he wanted to go out on a good note. She won the BC and was undefeated. Maybe they figured why risk the perfect record. Now, she's working well and looks great, so they want to give her another shot. IMO, they don't owe you or anyone else anything. Their horse, their decision, and if they want to waffle, they're entitled.

Actually, it happens more often than you think. I guess it never occured to you that maybe they needed to watch her work a few times in order to make their decision? You obviously have never owned a race mare.

                    *Completely undignified happy dance*

                    YAY!

Give me a break about 'lying to people'- I'm sure there was a hell of an internal debate about what to do after such a spectacular year end performance. With a perfect record and a race like that to crown your cap, conventional wisdom screams to send her to the shed... deciding to go against the flow tends to take a bit of soul searching time.

I AM a little surprised they announced it before the Eclipse awards, although it's too late for this to affect the outcome.

It's a little late for her to be aiming towards Dubai though, right? .... right???

So- shall we start the countdown to the RA vs. Z 2010 BCC?

Holy sheepsh!t!!! I never seriously thought they'd bring her back. This is one of those times when it's good to be wrong.

Now all I want to see is Zenyatta, RA, dirt at 1-1/4 against the boys. And pray everyone comes home safe.

I'm torn--part of me thinks she's earned her retirement, but part of me thinks she's happy and healthy doing what she's doing. I of course would love to see her go on.

I think she could still go there and it almost seems logical for a next step for something to tackle and add to the resume.

I mean would you really keep her running (vs. breeding) so that she can win the Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn? With Dubai's surface being synthetic for the first time this year it almost begs for her to try it.

Just my view but I don't see Jess Jackson making Rachel's return after a layoff being a field including Zenyatta.

As for "lying" no I wouldn't characterize the Moss family as doing that at all. I think they've wanted their options 'open' but strongly were leaning towards the BCC being the final start and the career ending in 2009. However with time they've seen that fans and the press are begging for a race against Rachel Alexandra and have wondered if Z's can add to her unbeaten streak.

Frankly breeding is overrated IMHO and it shouldn't dictate the sport of racing. She can wait another year and its good for the sport, good for fans and is just as good for the business of racing (if not more) then having her mated ever will.

If she wants to run, well, let 'er rip. We could use a hero about now.

ORRRR maybe they decided that the mare seems so happy and healthy doing her job, that they wanted to keep her happy instead of kicking her out to pasture to have babies.
I HIGHLY doubt anyone was "lying" intentionally.

I am another doing a happy dance! I very much look forward to watching her run again As long as she's happy and healthy, why not? God Forbid a US-bred racehorse stays sound, happy, and healthy as a racehorse beyond their adolescent years.

It's a natural progression for most US based Classic winners, and I should think she has more reason to go than many have- who is there for her to beat? Vodka would be a serious contender, but i've not seen conformation that she's going.

That said, it's a considerably more ambitious move than her connections have been willing to take thus far- but I also can't see what reason they would have to keep her in training if they don't intend to go out and barnstorm, now that she has emphatically demonstrated her class against the boys. This is one time where I sincerely hope pipe dreams and fantasies get ahold of the connections and drive them on. She's earned a retirement, certainly, but if she's going to keep racing she's earned the right to be put up against the best of the best, no holds barred. Stamp her name into the history books and gild it, as it were, as opposed to just the stamp.

My vote is still with RA for HOTY, but I am now more hopeful that the Mosses will get their OOTY Eclipse. This is a very game, hopeful and positive decision for the sport.

2010 is shaping up to be a hell of a racing year.

The Mosses for owner of the year! Heck, Jackson and the Mosses for owners of the decade!!! They have done this sport a great favor over the last few years.

Unfortunately, I'm sure the voting ballots have been sent in, so the Mosses decision to bring Z back won't have any bearing on the outcome of OOTY.

I'm almost positive that Rach will be HOTY, but Z now has her chance to shine.

I am ecstatic that she is coming back.

Zenyatta most likely won't be sent to Dubai even though she could still conceivably make the race.

The most logical spot for big Z and Rach to meet up would be the BC Classic at Churchill. If this is the case, I expect that both will have light campaigns because both will have to bring their A+ games if they want to beat the other. Zenyatta has a chance to take down Cigar's record now. Go Z!

This is GREAT for racing! I wish both Rach and Z a happy and healthy year! Let's get this ball rolling for the best matchup ever in the history of the sport. Fingers crossed.
