Forum rules and no-advertising policy
As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.
Board Rules
1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.
This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.
Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.
Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.
2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.
3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.
4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.
Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.
Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.
Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:
Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.
Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.
Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.
Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.
Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.
Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.
Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.
5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.
6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.
If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.
Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.
7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.
8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.
Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.
Thanks for being a part of the COTH forums!

Old COTHERs back on COTH?!?!?!

I was around COTH regularly until this past spring, but it's nice see so many posters who have been absent for a long time!
I'm now halfway through my PhD, and am spending a lot of time in Africa for my research. I love being over there and I'm having a great time back in school, though my schedule doesn't leave much time for riding. I make it out once a week to ride with annikak (a COTH connection and now wonderful "real life" friend).
I was a junior in college when I started posting here...since then, I graduated from college, moved across the country for a job in DC, went back for a master's, and then moved to another school for a PhD. So in the end, it's years later and I'm still in school! The more things change, huh?! --Jess

I THINK it was Moazambique- but it may have been Angola.
Before indepebnnce there was a country club with a golf course and a barn full of Lusitanos (including some stallions).
When the Portuguese left, they just turned the horses out on the golf course, and then the new goverenment used the golf course for tank practice. But some of the horses survived and reproduced.
When things stabilized again, somebody started working with the horses again, and ended up with a nice little lesson stable in the midst of the turmoil. Gillian used to go there regularly as a break from the politics - late 70s through mid 80s..Janet

I remember all of you!
I mostly lurked, but did post occasionally, and have just recently become active again. Heidi, I remember your wicked humor fondly, and have always wondered where you went. What comes to mind - Robby Johnson's "wedding tackle", the "Inverness problem", Tiamo's birth, Velvet and RAyers planning to hook-up at Rolex, Baby Aiden, numping, and so much more!
Thanks for the memories!!

MAZ
Hey Quinn:
I see MAZ just about every day. She is doing great -- has left the NYC investment banking world to be involved with horses full time. I think she's really happy -- has a great relationship with a long-term SO and is a wonderful mom to an adorable 10 year old step-daughter. I hear sporadically from Trooper (another member of the NYC clique), who has also left the NYC investment banking world, for a similar job in Little Rock -- also doing great with a house, two horses, and a dog. AHC (another "old timer" and also of the NYC clique), is one of my best buds, and has a wonderful new horse that is making up into a lovely hunter. So all nice updates on them.

I first started posting when I was taking a break from the "real world" and being a working student for Denny Emerson. I distinctly remember one of the first threads I read: The beginning of "Suffering Pines"
I knew you were a craaaazy bunch back then.
I remember how funny Colin, Sea Urchin (why won't he come back?), Moesha and Jair were, and the whole hoopla over the bicycle-chain bit.
It's been really nice to see all these old names. Whenever I see Rhodey's name in event results, I remember when Robby bought him from Mix'n'Match and how excited he was about him!
Oh, the good old days...I evented just for the Halibut.

As far as I know, Kachoo doesn't ride anymore, I think her brother has taken over her rides. I have her as a friend on myspace and facebok, she's living in Florida and is engaged (I think!)Originally posted by Astraled View PostDoes Kachoo still ride?
I asked for new twins pix on page 3. You must not continue to deny me, DD20!
.
As for pics of the girls, unfortunately the way things have played out in life, I don't post pics of them on the internet. But for those who would like to see pics, you can PM me with your e-mail and I will happily e-mail pics!
I have a pony for them in CA, and when I finally move to WA I will move said fat pony up there with me. She's 22, and an absolute SAINT one of a kind lovely beast.
Now to go read the rest of this thread...

Aiden Update
Baby Aiden is now big boy Aiden with little brother Mason. Aiden has had a series of health issues--none of which have dimmed his unbelievable spirit or fight. Lisa and Joey (mom and dad) are doing great and little brother Mason is a gem.
It is truly amazing to see him go through this life and stay unchanged in his indomitable way of tackling new challenges. He remains the darling of the hospital staffs wherever he is seen.
He is still our Lionheart.
ANYONE can PM me if you would like a link to his website or a more detailed update!Proud Member of Wood Hill Farm who's motto is "I'm not going sober!"

Poutine!!!
JB is still around here - she is just not as obnoxious as some of us! Some other porchers - LMH, Sannois(formerly Truman I believe), and a few more I can't think of.
I started on here as "Jaime Lynne". That memory came to me late last night. I switched my name to Silly Mommy after an incident at a horse show where I loudly exclaimed the "S" word as I almost hit the wall in a jumpoff. My (then) 4 year old daughter (whose lap I almost landed in) exclaimed "Silly Mommy" as only a four year old can.
Much to my dismay, the whole horse show community in attendance at that show began calling me Silly Mommy".
I gotta do-over and am doin it my way!!!

Merry and Beezer still post. I also run into them periodically at shows. Merry moved to horse property near El Ranchito, which I know b/c she wrote a hysterical article about her husband over-engineering the waterers.
Here is Star, my mostly graduated BG. He has a great eye and the trainers keep trying to tell me I have a packer if I would just leave him alone. He saved my rear in a big way a few weekends ago when I asked him to leave from Egypt. He added the stride and then some-how heaved himself over sideways without touching the jump and then loped off tho nothing happened. May never have bought him save for you guys making your BG's sound so entertaining. And may never have gotten the courage to jump again except for realizing that there were all these people on this board (not mentioning any names) who seemed about as old as I was and who were still leaping over things.
Great to hear from everyone. Where is Jair? And Erin B?The Evil Chem Prof

The COTH "juniors"
I was thrilled a couple of years ago, when The Winglet arrived unannounced with ErinB and several of her friends in tow.
She had made the trip from NY to Philly, met up with the Winglet who then arranged a road trip to Charlestown, WV to the races and thence on to surprise Fatlilpony, who has started up her own farrier service in Northern VA and is taking excellent care of many local area bber's ponies.
I am happy to have so many bb friends who I've known longer via the internet than in "real" time around me.
