Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Well then Tackpud, if your stallion (is this the blind three legged one?) cleared the 8' oxer with 2' to spare, maybe you should get him some viagra. MY stallion can knock down a 6" cavaletti if there is a mare around. Of course, even though he's blind, he only likes Chestnut mares with Flaxen manes and tails.
When I last took him to a GM clinic though, he did like a nice Bay mare there but she was jumping 10' so would't pay a lowly horse any mind.

We must have talked to the same animal communicator that you did Raff. He said that all the horses at the GM clinic were horribly abused, and I believe it! I mean just LOOK at those horrible riders!!!! But again that's just MY opinion and I am right 110% of the time. I am of course the one who was singled out at that clinic for my perfect form and excellent training abilities (after they removed all the chestnut and that darn bay mare from the facility of course)!

Woooohooo!!!! Another serious thread!!! Smegma coolers for everyone!!!

So, I took my 123hh Gypsy Vanner/fillygelding to a dressage show and didn't place. I don't know why! I mean, he did the Grand Prix test perfectly even though I rode in a western saddle with a hackmore. What should I do?!

            Dear mcm7780,

Thanks so much for writing Dear Know-it-all. In your situation I can only speculate that you didn't place because your show shirt wasn't sparkly enough or your saddle didn't sport enough silver. I am sure, with your choice of bridles, that your impressive fillygelding was beautifully collected thus the only possible reason for your lack of placement could be your wardrobe. Best of luck at your next show and may I suggest a cow print saddle pad this time to compliment your horse's coloration.

            Sincerely,

            Dear Know-it-all

Well, while we are on the subject of stallions, I had a horse that's father was a stallion. Will someone please critique him for me? Now, these pictures were taken 5 years ago and he was not in the best mood, and it was cold, and I had the sniffles so I wasn't riding my best, and the horse died a year ago, but I really really do want to know what y'all think. I value and respect your oppinions, especially since you have that fabulous stallion you were just describing.

OOOH, and speaking of dressage fashion, I need to know what new sparkly things I need to buy for WEF this year. I just think my hunter looks SO boring in plain ole tack. I thought I would get a sequin coat to wear. Maybe cover my huge Mikmar in swavorski crystals? I think it would be GREAT to get my 25 hand WB a nose ring - DIAMONDS of course. BTW, he needs a name. Got any ideas?

I did do a search on all of this, but just couldn't find what I was looking for, so I thought I'd just post it here. I didn't want to start another topic and all, so I thought I would just tack it on here. I don't want to hijack though.

MCM,oh my dear, did your saddle have a tree in it,hmmn, yes I think it did now, isnt that so dear
You must only show where judges give lots and lots of tens, and it doesnt matter at all what sort of bridle you use, there should be no weight in the reins anyhow, those hands of yours should be holding 2 tiny precious golden mystical faeries that you may not crush, got that?
Please listen to deary,(Dear Knowitall to you),with whom I am arranging a clinic at which I personally will be demonstrating tongue to boot cleaning technique in hand before deary shows you what a 10 looks like.

Finally, a fun thread....I gave up on those others long ago, just got totally lost...

Now, for that three legged stallion--but of course he simply must be bred, especially if the missing leg & the blindness are genetic...in a few years you can start a whole new registry.

As for the trailer question--if it were me I'd put the rescues in the trailer & the Minis would drive the Miata. Which reminds me, would y'all like to see a photo of my Grand Prix dressage Minis? They're a matched pair that I call "Roller" and "Blade"...

Oh, yes, for anyone that has shown somewhere recently and hasn't done well, don't you know you're supposed to sleep with the judge in order to win?? If you did, & still didn't win, well just a small hint....you must not have done it right.

Oh, & that reminds me....thank you to Jetsmom for sending the photo of that rather unique halloween costume. Good one! (Okay, so I lost track of the thread that one came from! Don't mean to go off topic here...)

I'm confused Are you asking for a critique of the STALLION or your horse? And don't expect me to deliver a serious critique if you didn't have time to change in to proper riding attire just because you were ill, and coming straight from the hot tub (in the Miata, top down) where you were trying to clear your sinuses...After all, you must delete at least 3/4 of any posts having to do with home made polo wraps and talk about them ALL, because we know that home made polo wraps are a contentious subject. Besides, everyone knows that RAISING the jump is what impresses those stallions and we all know WHY this is so...whether or not you decide to try poling at home.

So I've done a search already, 'cause I wouldn't want to ask something that's previously been asked, 'cause some might think me lazy, while others might think me stupid, while still others would think I'm just fulfilling certain evolutionary standards... but I've got a question.

My forty-seven year old maiden mare has a set of wolf teeth that would rival Vlad the Impaler's (hence her nickname, Vladina). Will this pose any threat to the foal that's due at Christmas-time? She did leave a great big dent in the vet's chest when she was bred live cover (she seemed to "get off on it," in my vet's words, although the communicator swore she was complaining about the inadequate size... of the mini-stallion's member, not the vet's).

So, any advice??? Should I have custom armor-plating made for the baby? I live near a permanent Renaissance Festival encampment, so that wouldn't be a problem.

Awaiting your reply with baited breath (I consume a lot of garlic to keep Vladina at bay).

Wait, I think my horses' dad was a stallion too...But maybe not? I just don't know, I'll have to check his papers.

More importantly, I need a NAME for my sabino 6 month old filly who is ready to go in the 3ft ring and win...so it needs to be a REALLY good name. Can you all put down your smegma coolers and help?
                                Can you stress-fracture your brain?

Oh and who pulls a 12 horse bumper pull without their barbie battery powered jeep. You have to look good when driving down the road!

<<I'm so worried. Dancer came in from the field last week with a big, huge, scrape on his leg. Now it's so swollen he can't put it down on the ground. Could it be EPSM? He just seems not to want to go forward, even when a jump is right in front of him, which usually makes it really easy to get him into a really fast run. I don't have a trailer and don't have a vet and could anyone tell me if I should skip my show tomorrow? The show is AT the barn where I used to take lessons, but the BO doesn't like me, so I was going to get my friend to ride, but she wants me to take care of her rescued abused 2yo filly that right now is living in the roundpen behind her mom's house, and is my friend a professional because she once showed in the infant rail class on someone else's horse and got in trouble and I don't want her to get in trouble again for riding my horse and she is worried about this one lady who is out to get her.>>
