Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

You guys are such a generous group. Yes, Boston Chicken, donations are most welcome and will be used to purchase and provide vet care for at-risk horses at the fair, if need be. You can make a gift online by clicking the "Donate Now" button (or scrolling down to the Paypal option at the bottom of the screen, if you prefer to use Paypal) at:

    http://www.canterusa.org/newengland/NoHo2005/index.htm

All donations are tax-deductible as we are a 501(c)(3).

MissCapitalSplash, the offer of a layover stop is a big help. Would you mind PTing me with your phone # so we can call in case of an emergency?

And your boy Slim looks GREAT! He and the rest of the beauties displayed so proudly in this thread are excellent ambassadors for Northampton Fair OTTBs.

Bumping this again and begging anyone looking for a horse or who has an empty stall to check these TBs out! I'm a stock horse person and I could not be happier with my CANTER NE Suffolk Downs horse.

Nine of Cups rocks and I could have sold her a number of times for a lot more than I paid. She's not for sale, but this TB has done local WP shows and started barrel training with a 14yo as her primary rider. She does trails and is just an awesome horse, who happens to resemble a QH more than a TB these days.

I just got home from a show at the fairgrounds. That track is hard and I feel for any horse forced to run on it! I truly hope they break it up and drag it before the races.

17H - awesome news about the vet available! Now there's no issue about trying to get a horse vetted or taking a chance(like I did )!

      No excuses left folks!

      Go CANTER!!

Sandbarhorse, you are a great cheerleader. Thank you for sharing Niner's success story. I'll never forget you and your friend driving all the way from NY to pick her up on that dreary winter day!

Just wanted to add for anyone interested in shopping for a Northampton Fair horse, in case it wasn't clear...you CAN still go look at horses at the fair *before* the CANTER NE volunteers will be there on 9/10 and 9/11. We will have photos and listings up on the site after 9/3. You are welcome to call and schedule an appointment during the week of the 5th with the trainer(s) of any horse(s) who catch your eye. (You can also call Dr. Eggleston to see if she is available for a pre-purchase during the week).

Just please remember that you won't be able to access the fairgrounds' barn area unless you have an appointment with a trainer during the week of the 5th, or are being escorted by CANTER on the 10th or 11th.

PT me, DKL, or LBM with any questions!

I so love seeing all the pictures and stories, brings back memories! Everyone looks so good!

I don't have anything really to add, but just wanted to second what 17handTB said about people calling the trainers for appointments before the 9/10 - 9/11 weekend.

We are going to be attempting to coordinate in one weekend what we did in two last year -- so the more interested buyers that can contact the trainers ahead of time the better

Kim, thank you! If you can tell EVERYONE you know to tell everyone THEY know...the more prospective horse owners who drop by the fair, the better chance of finding homes for as many of these sweeties as possible.

And Sophab, does anyone really "need" another horse? They just tend to...happen.

I just wanted to note, that the Steve trainer that has already had horses listed on NoHo CANTER, is a great guy. I bought a horse from him last year, Mean Irene, and my stupid ex boyfriend went to bring her out to the trailer while I was paying. I don't know what he did to her (the stupid ex) but she was acting up badly by the time I got around the shedrow. Everybody was yelling at him to control his horse. I took her, and I am very experienced, but she reared and tried to take my head off with her fronts, and it was deliberate. I am sure X got her all wound up somehow, he liked to do that, but that behavior scared the bejesus out of me, as I have a young kid at home. So, I went back and asked Steve if we could NOT buy his mare, and he returned my money immediately, let me know it was my stupid Ex's fault, and took the mare back. I felt horrible about it, but he was super nice about it, really.

I only wish I had realized about the stupid X a lot sooner, ahhahaha, as he nearly got me killed with horses on more than one occassion and it has taken me over a year to get any sort of decent reputation back, with the local dealers and horse folks.

                            Hi guys,

Today we talked to a few of the trainers at Suffolk Downs who will be going to the fair. It looks as though there may be a real need for horse rescue/welfare efforts, in addition to a need for buyers for the MANY sound, nice, good-looking horses who will be there...

So if you can't buy a horse yourself, but would still like to help, any and all donations toward our horse welfare efforts at the fair would be deeply appreciated. Every penny will go toward purchasing and providing vet care for horses at Northampton who may be at risk at the end of the meet.

You can donate online by visiting our main NoHo page (linked in my signature below), either through Network for Good (top donation button on that page) or through Paypal (button at the bottom of the page).

                            Thanks so much!

P.S. Boston Chicken, West of McGuire is racing in Maryland but still for sale - trainer's contact information remains valid. He is very handsome, isn't he? And yes, Lazyd, Steve Murtaugh is a very honest and capable horseman. We're happy to have him coming back to Northampton.

Just wanted to say that I'm still broke (But I got a second job to pay my debt down )
but I still have an extra stall. We have the shed row, there are no doors on it, the stalls open into a corral that would be shared with my 3 year old and my 23 year old. The corral isn't huge and we do not have grass. However, I'm sure if a horse is in a desperate situation, my place could be the Taj Mahal

Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is, if there is a need, I have a safe haven. Only requests are: No Studs (I have 3 mares and I don't want any foals), the horse must not be sick (I promised hubby that if I ever took in a needy horse that it wouldn't get the girls sick) and I would need help paying for feed and what not. There would be no charge what so ever for the stall.

Also wanted to offer that I can use my truck and trailer to move horses if need be for gas money. It unfortunately would take me close to $200 to get down there and back home, but as long as someone paid that and the money it takes from Northampton to their place, or wherever the horse would go, that's absolutely fine. I have a two horse.

Email at doubletefarm@yahoo.com if you think you might need my help. And Ellen and Catherine know they can always call on me for help.

Doublete has been an ANGEL for CANTER NE. If anyone needs trailering in a jam, her services are top-notch - and she's a pretty darn good trainer, too, if anyone needs one of those!

Thanks to everyone who has stepped up with offers of help. From the sounds of it, just based on the sheer number of Northampton horses that will need homes, and the shortage of financial and spatial resources for rescue horses, we're going to need all the help we can get.
