Forum rules and no-advertising policy
As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.
Board Rules
1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.
This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.
Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.
Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.
2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.
3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.
4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.
Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.
Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.
Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:
Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.
Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.
Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.
Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.
Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.
Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.
Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.
5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.
6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.
If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.
Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.
7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.
8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.
Please see our full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

ryansgirl, it is truly a small 'horse' world! Mr. chai and I went into Suffolk Downs and fell in love with 'Florida Faye' a few years ago. I thought she was the cutest little filly but I couldn't justify buying a 14.2H filly at the time because I needed a more sturdy build in a horse. Mr. chai thought she was cute, too and knew how much I liked that filly. He arranged a boarding situation and was going to surprise me with Faye for Mother's Day. It was all set, but the day before he was to bring the $$, Faye actually won a race and her trainer decided not to sell her. We couldn't believe she chose such a bad time to become an overachiever! We were very sad, and we always thought about Faye. In the meantime, I found a wonderful Shire and bought him. The trainer called us back when he changed his mind - again - but I had no room left in the barn, nor could I afford to board another horse.
I was thrilled when I heard that Faye found a good home. She is the dearest, most beautiful little filly and I am glad you are enjoying her. 17handTB is the kind TB owner who told me that Faye is now Ryan and has a great home with you. Thanks, 17handTB!

Hey Bugs! Is it great to be home???
We are still in transition to the new barn, but as soon a I can get Sherri's scanner set up, I will get a pic of the bouncing Blonder baby! (in utero of course). Sadly getting the back pasture up and running is a more important project right now.
Oh, and Jill has checked in foal to Sherri's stallion Prince. We are just tickled with this cross. We will get more webpage updates soon.

Chai - wow such a small world!! I guess I should thank you for not buying little "Faye" or as she is now known - Ryan (the name Faye just didn't fit her though she would prefer to be called "Princess Ryan"
). She did grow a little and has filled out quite a bit. When I went looking for a CANTER horse, I was told she really needed a home and that she was originally all set to go to someone else but things changed - I didn't ask what. I pulled all her race records and she only finished 2nd once (3/2003) and 3rd once (4/2003) - they said she won a race?? Interesting. Well she is doing great and loves her life now - she really doesn't have a thing to complain about!! I started doing some schooling jumper shows with her (non-rated local small stuff) and she just loves it (apparently blue is her favorite color
). She is a very confident brave little mare with a brain like no others I've worked with. Unfortunately I blew out my knee back in June and had surgery last month so no riding for me until spring (doctor's order
). So for now she gets to hang out and eat grass all day long with my 30-year old TB (such a rough life they have). I'm glad you did find another horse and are happy with him
. Thank you 17handTB for letting Chai know Faye is doing great
.
I just love those OTTB horses and hopefully everyone comes thru and finds all the horses at Northhampton Fair good homes. They deserve it!!

Here's a pic of my Noho CANTER cutie Abe.
He probably would have gone to the killers because of chips in his knee, but being the sucker I am, and with the encouragement and financial aid from wonderful folks on this board, I took him home and had arthroscopic surgery done on his knee.
He's the sweetest, kindest, most appreciative horse I have EVER known and my family and I love him to pieces and don't regret for a moment the financial as well as emotional investment we've put into this horse. I do hope to ride him one day - he's actually looked pretty darned rideable lately
- but even if I never ride him, he'll always have a home with me.
Edited to add - We need to see updated pics from all the Noho alumni!
I would like to think I will die an heroic death...
But it's more likely I'll trip over my dog and choke on a spoonful of frosting.

Hi everyone,
Some Northampton news! We've already received a few listings from a trainer who is shipping in next week. (Photos are up too!) You can see the listings at:
http://www.canterusa.org/newengland/sale/index7.htm
Secondly, an excellent vet has offered to provide pre-purchase exam services at the fair (I know firsthand that she's excellent because she treated my horse before she started her own practice!) She is very OTTB-knowledgeable and is a competitive rider herself, so she understands both sides of the equation.
Information is as follows:
Dr. Aimee Eggleston of Eggleston Equine, LLC (http://www.egglestonequine.com) will be available to perform pre-purchase vet exams at the Northampton Fair on Sunday, September 11. (She may also be available for vet exams prior to the 11th, depending on her schedule - please call as far in advance as possible if you'd like to schedule an exam before the 11th).
If you are interested in having Dr. Eggleston perform a pre-purchase exam on a horse at the fair, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
*You MUST call in advance to schedule an official appointment with Dr. Eggleston. She can be reached at 860-942-3365. This will not only allow Dr. Eggleston to ensure she has enough time for everyone desiring an exam, but will also provide buyers with an opportunity to explain what they are hoping to do with the horse, express any concerns they have, ask questions, etc.
*Prices are:
FULL PRE-PURCHASE VET EXAM: $300
SOUNDNESS EXAM: $200
PHYSICAL EXAM (vet looking over the horse without watching him/her in motion): $75
*A Visa or Mastercard will be required to schedule and pay for a vet exam. At the time you schedule an appointment, your card will be charged an initial $150 for a PPE, $100 for a soundness exam or the full $75 for a physical exam. This charge will be nonrefundable, with the balance due at the completion of the exam.
*If you make a same-day appointment for an exam, a Visa/Mastercard will be required and run prior to work being completed (Dr. Eggleston can run your credit card via phone).
*Dr. Eggleston can take X-rays, but will not be able to process them on the same day the exam is performed.
If you have further questions, please feel free to reach Dr. Eggleston at 860-942-3365 or dr@egglestonequine.com.
Thanks for the continuing interest, guys!

Sophab, yes, it is GREAT to be home with my horses. They are doing well! Frodo has grown and is now 16 1/2h and Bugs is just her usual sweet self. I am thrilled to be with them.
Abe looks so happy and what a lucky boy he is. It is so nice to see him relaxed and happy.

I wish I could take one or two of this lot home with me. But since my barn is full, I'm going to have to find other ways to help. 17handtb, what else would be helpful? It seems you're set for volunteers so where would $$$$ be most useful?
thanks for doing all you do for the horses!*Faune D'Helby*

I havent been around, but wanted to post an offer of help. I live 15 minutes from the track and can make room for a few horses if any need a spot to hang before being shipped to a home further away. My email is mmack@equinesite.com
I have gotten 8 or so off the Noho track in the past 4 years, most have moved on to other homes as broodmares or riding horses, but one has stayed the course.
Ive attached a photo of Mr Slim, now a coming 7 year old. I got him when he was 3 yrs old off the noho track. He was three legged lame on an osselet and an abscess, ended up foundering, but is now competeing training level eventing. I love him dearly. <pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre"> </pre>If riding were all blue ribbons and bright lights, I would have quit long ago.
