Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Are my two boys eligible for the FLF club, despite being 'second hand' FLF?

Gelding #1 came off FL, but I bought him 6 years later.

Gelding #2 raced in Kentucky before moving to FL where he failed miserably. Came off the track and I bought him several years (and owners) later.

Can my boys join the cool kids, or is this 'club' for the TB's directly off the track?

      • Time Piece update

Timer has made a remarkable recovery from his muscle injuries -- much faster than the initial prognosis. He got a chiropractic adjustment yesterday -- ooh, ahh, what relief! The chiro said he thought everything he detected was residual from many years on the track, and no strong remaining evidence of the injury from 6 weeks ago. He has cleared Timer for going back into work -- and not a moment too soon since the poor horse was starting to go stir crazy on stall rest. During his daily hand walks he is being a good boy and walking strong and straight, but just dying to prance and show his stuff.
Now if it would only stop pouring rain every day so the paddocks will stop being lakes and he can get back out with his buddies and re-start the process of just being a horse -- and tear into all that nice new green grass.
Meanwhile I have heard from several people who had bad Parelli experiences with their OTTBs.

BC - what a great update on Timer! Glad to hear he is recovering so quickly!!

I was able to finally buy a saddle that fits my mare perfectly (the other two saddles were bought for horses much wider than mare) and I finally have a much steadier leg, its so nice!

here are the last pictures with my old saddle

          • x-c schooling

Glad to hear good news on several finest - old and new. I just got back yesterday from a road trip to the Unionville, PA area. Getting any schooling in before the events up here is about impossible, Ries was struggling with jumping, and I needed a break from reality so I took my vacation and loaded horse and child and went to stay with a friend who is a trainer to get some coaching. Ries figured out jumping shortly before we left and so we got to introduce him to walls and more complicated bounces and courses. The trainer said if I had anymore horses that couldn't jump to please send them down. Ries was a rock star. Due to weather and schedule, Ries has not left my farm to be ridden anywhere else. After a long trip, he hopped off the trailer, got a short break and went to a strange arena with all sorts of jumps and distractions and went to work like a pro. We got to go schooling at Laurel Hill's schooling area (color me green in jealousy), and Ries really clicked in to the idea that he could be cautious, but had to jump what he was pointed at. We got to do ditches, banks, etc and he was super clever at it. Not bad for a horse that has just been doing small white jumps in a ring. When he was not jumping, we just sauntered around on a long rein and watched others. I will be getting entries ready this afternoon for a BN event in June. Yee Haw! Its been four years since I evented last.

http://gallery.me.com/ironvine#100025 - short video of Ries - be warned - we were playing around with the video function on the iphone for the first time so the first go around was missed and with the wind no one could hear each other.

              • Congrats to Finger Lakes Race Track

BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Finger Lakes Race Track on being only the 20th track in the whole USA to earn full accreditation by the NTRA Safety & Integrity Alliance. This involved a very lengthy process including tons of paperwork and track side visitations and inspections by the committee. It was noted that the committee was VERY impressed with the work done at Finger Lakes track to transition TBs to new careers.

See the entire article on www.bloodhorse.com. Search Finger Lakes Race Track at the top and the article should be the first. It was dated April 12th, 2011.

Good job and kudos to all the volunteers who help in placing FL horses into new homes and new lives.

Here is my finger lakes finest mare Wisher: http://s980.photobucket.com/albums/a...igg_x3/Wisher/

Her racing name was Americas Gal. She is the nicest horse I have ever had. I got her 5 years ago when she was a 6yr old, I was 11. She was very green and only had a summer of reschooling. We competed in the 3'6 jumpers and now have switched to eventing and love it! Currently we are doing Training, and plan to move up to Prelim later this spring with hopes to move up from there in the future.

I'm always checking the trainer listings, saving several ones on my favorites list just incase my mom will let me have another one:P. Thoroughbreds are the best!

Of course you can. We love, absolutely and positively LOVE to hear about any of the Finger Lake's Finest. Even if they have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. We know they gave their owners and admirers some wonderful rides and memories.

OMG! She is lovely and then some. I hope you get down this way for some of our events. We have GVRDC (2-one in June and the other August), Stuart and GVH are both in July, and I think GVPC is in June or end of May-not sure, I'd have to check the Omnibus.

                        • Reisling and Wisher are both WOWs! I am especially impressed with how Reis bravely and calmly encountered all those natural obstacles for the first time, like a pro. Rhymes with Orange, you have yourself a gem there!
I noticed that today one of the horses that was listed last season that many of us drooled over but he never found a new home -- Five Blessings - ran today at FL in an allowance race and ran 5th. As he keeps running and bringing home checks, I worry that his owner/trainer will keep waffling on selling him to a good new home, until he gets hurt. I am still interested in this horse, if not for me, then for my BO, so I will keep following him.

I'm sure if you called her up and made an reasonable offer, she might consider selling him. I think she was asking 2500.....

                                • My FLF from before there was a rehoming program [1991], turned 26 on Saturday. He enjoyed some belly scratches, a good grooming and a piece of carrot cake and some attention from his favorite 7 year old boy.

Louise be sure, if you see Jimmy K, to let him know that ol' man Yousolong is alive, well, enjoying watching the mares, and is so good with my son whom he loves.

Well, the Peep Adventure of 2011 was a complete flop.
Neither of my TBs went for them; on the contrary, they were highly offended by the sticky, sugary goo. I, on the other hand, laughed so hard I couldn't breathe so the number of pictures is limited but...

                                      • Ugh. My mare had a foal last Thursday, so poor Wilson has been very jealous that this little thing is getting so much attention and stealing his mares from him. He spent several days running around like a moron outside in this miserable wet weather and managed to give himself an abscess. It got dug out today, talk about a blood bath! It was nasty, I held him and just looked away. Thankfully, a local feed store had a really big Davis medicine boot so he doesn't rip off the bandaging and grind dirt into it.
