Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You’re responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it—details of personal disputes are likely better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts that violate these rules. Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting, but administrators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts upon request.

Outright inflammatory, vulgar, harassing, malicious or otherwise inappropriate statements and criminal charges unsubstantiated by a reputable news source or legal documentation will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it’s understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users’ profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses – Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it’s related to a horse for sale, regardless of who’s selling it, it doesn’t belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions – Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services – Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products – While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements – Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be “bumped” excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues – Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators’ discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the “alert” button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your “Ignore” list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you’d rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user’s membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

All four are awesome movers and very friendly.

Hey Horseless - we need to get together soon!!!

Also, Greg's Turk is a big puppy dog. He is awesome. When they all came off the trailer, my vet was amazed that all their leggs are clean.

How do I post the pictures on here???

Now I get to change my COTH name and come up with some new names for my guys!!! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

    • Jersey - Glad to hear yours made it there safely! They were quite anxious and ready to get off the trailer!!! By the way, I somehow ended up with Crystal Conquest's coggins and I think you should have Count Quillo's. I do want to meet you and come see all your beautiful beasties, specially your PMU babies!!!

Anyway, seems Penalty Declined and Count Quillo have settled in nicely, already turned out in padocks enjoying muching on their hay.

        • Jersey - My SO said that a website called tinypic.com is an easy way to post pictures. You go to their website, send them the pictures and they will give you a URL that you can post on the boards so we can all see your Canter Cuties!!!

          • JerseyRio: Go to www.webshots.com and post your pics in an album there. Then put a link to your pics in your signature on COTH (see mine below as an example).

            • Okay, I need some help. I've posted my pics in a Webshots album, but I can't seem to figure out how to change my signature line to add the link. I've tried to go to edit my profile, but I don't see the signature part. Help!

Edited to say: Oops- I found it. You have to scroll down. Okay, so I'm a horse trainer, not a computer genius.

I've started a photo album for my Truman. Check it out if you want to see a NoHo horse chilling out and healing up. Will add pics as he makes progress.

Good luck to you all. My prayers are with you angels who are nursing the "walking wounded." Love to read your updates.

                  • We took a couple of pictures of our two canter cuties. The first one is Count Quillo:

                    Count Quillo

                    And this is Penalty Declined:

                    Penalty Declined

Count Quillo seems to be settling in nicely and has a beautiful trot! He's very sweet and funny - likes to play in his water bucket. I think he will be perfect for my SO.

I'm a little concerned about Penalty Declined since he's seems to get excited when he sees another horse. I am thinking he may have been gelded late in life. I hope within a few more days he will calm down.

They look great 2 HORSES IN GORGIA!!!! Don't worry, I am pretty sure Penalty will relax eventually, even if he WAS gelded late. A lot of these guys have not been socialized, so they over react when they see another horse. My friend's horse was not gelded until he was 8 and you would never know it. They do come down. He has had a ton of excitement the last few weeks, after a few weeks with you, I BETCHA he will relax.

I am in the process of learning this lesson right now, thanks to my young gelding, Frodo. I have learned, and am learning, that when I obsess over something with him, I find out later that I had nothing to worry about. I am trying to grasp this new lesson and take it to heart. For example, just before Frodo turned a year old, and was still a colt, we tried to seperate him from the mares (and the filly who is his age) he had been with all winter, and turn him out with the geldings. He FREAKED and jumped the pasture fence, after that, we decided to keep him with the mares for the summer. (He was gelding soon after that, as planned) I was sooooooo worried that he was going to over react like this in EVERY new situation. Well, we just sucessfully separated him from the mares. He handled it like a dream, never a worry from him. He is calm and cool as a cucumber. So, all of that obsessing and worrying did nothing. Have faith, they always seem to surprise us! They just need time.

I do too, but I'm starting to get very confused. Seems we got to know these horses by their real names up to and just after auction day. I can't remember who they were originally. I know that Truman was someone else, but who? How 'bout a little help for the short attention span group...when referring to your new CANTER cuties, can you include something like "Fantastic Experience (nee Dobbin's Angel)" or something like that?

                            thanks

                            • Good point Madeline. I think I've fixed mine. I keep going back to the original CANTER site to see the particulars of the horses. Its fun to watch them change and hear about them "at home."

Ann, Give it time. As I recall, Penalty Declined is younger. Young horses can be really silly. Over time, he'll settle in and act like a "normal person." Establish a routine and go about your business. He'll thrive on it. They look in great shape- I'm really excited for you!

                                • Jsalem - Yea, I need to set a routine and have lots of patience. He's got lots of crud on his hind legs, but other than that they both are in good shape. Of course they need groceries but in time they will look good. I want to ask you a few things/opinions so I will give you a ring.

                                  Thanks!!!

HIG, try using Listerine on the crud on his hind legs. My mare is prone to that and when I spray it with the Listerine, it clears right up.

horseless- my guy zig a little was having the same problems that your guy is. we just kept him in the same routine everyday and he is starting to clam down a bit. he does not like being in a stall at all now that he has figured out what the paddock is. ,so we just bring him in to feed him and turn him back out, he loves it. don't worry he will calm down, he just needs a little time to figure out what this is all about. remember they have had jobs everyday for a long time. they are not real sure about not doing anything.good luck
also for the crud try using apple cider vinager, just put it on full afer you hose the leg with water straight out of the bottle with a sponge and let it stay on for about 10 minutes and wash off. i will get rid of it, it always works on my guys and i am in florida, crud capital of the world!

                                      • HIG - P.D. seemed much quieter this morning. He followed me around his paddock as I poop scooped and kept sniffing my hair (must be the vanilla shampoo ) as I scrubbed his water trough. He was definitely more mellow this morning! He'll be a lap dog in no time!

                                        • Hi all.
Well, all 3 mares are settling in. Fancy got new feet last night. We were questioning whether we would be able to get the hinds done, but thanks to our wonderful efficient farrier, she is now happily barefoot. Fossie's Jill and Snickers (Beyond Great) are scheduled for next week.
They are all happily munching on round bales, and enjoying their time off. Jill and Snickers make quite the pair, if you took their faces off, they would look like the same horse!
There are pics of the new girls at the Whiserping Wood Farm Mare Page. We are still waiting on a picture of Jill, and will update as we can. Sherri is also dying to get new pics of Prince as those are all almost a year old...
