Board Rules

1. Youre responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the Forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading itdetails of personal disputes may be better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts, though are not legally obligated to do so, regardless of content.

Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting. Moderators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts unless they have been alerted and have determined that a post, thread or user has violated the Forums policies. Moderators do not regularly independently monitor the Forums for such violations.

Profanity, outright vulgarity, blatant personal insults or otherwise inappropriate statements will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Users may provide their positive or negative experiences with or opinions of companies, products, individuals, etc.; however, accounts involving allegations of criminal behavior against named individuals or companies MUST be first-hand accounts and may NOT be made anonymously.

If a situation has been reported upon by a reputable news source or addressed by law enforcement or the legal system it is open for discussion, but if an individual wants to make their own claims of criminal behavior against a named party in the course of that discussion, they too must identify themselves by first and last name and the account must be first-person.

Criminal allegations that do not satisfy these requirements, when brought to our attention, may be removed pending satisfaction of these criteria, and we reserve the right to err on the side of caution when making these determinations.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While its understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and its related to a horse for sale, regardless of whos selling it, it doesnt belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be bumped excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the alert button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your Ignore list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary youd rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a users membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

  • Riderless Horses and Horseless Riders--matchmaking service!

Our old riderless horses/horseless riders thread was getting rather long, so it's time to start fresh.

Please check HERE for the old thread, and feel free to repost here if you were on that thread.

For those who aren't familiar, this thread is provided for folks with jobless horses looking to match them up with someone looking for a ride...or vice versa.

While it's OK to ask for a little help cleaning tack or mucking a stall, this isn't the place to advertise for paid opportunities either way.

Please give a clear, bold title to your post to sum up your location, etc. for easy reference.

    Good luck matchmaking!

Horseless rider- Milwaukee/ Northern Chicago suburbs

My gelding is struggling with soundness/ navicular issues. My background was h/j, but the last few years dressage. Before buying my gelding I spent a long time riding whatever was available including young horses, broodmares coming back into work, and newly off the track tbs. I don't jump anymore. I'd just like to ride a little while we try to get him more comfortable. I might be open to a shareboard if the horse/times/ location was right, or if you'd prefer I ride in lessons with your trainer, would be happy to pay for them. I am only available Thursdays, Saturdays, and evenings after about 7pm, I can never predict what time I'll get out of work.

Horseless Rider - Front Royal, VA

I've been riding since 2015 and have really become more serious about it this year, so I am looking for more riding time. I am in search of a horse that I can work with and that will help me progress. Ultimately I would like to jump more, however, any riding time is good enough for me!
I'm also willing to help with care and working around the barn in exchange.
    I'm 5' 5" and 140 lbs, intermediate rider.
Message me or text me at (540)692-2021 if you have a horse that may work out!

I am a grad student looking for catch ride opportunities in the area. I'm happy to ride anything! I have experience with green horses and tuning up lesson horses. I have my C3 from Pony Club in both dressage and eventing, competed to Second Level dressage, and Training level eventing. I also have my own dressage saddle.

    Thanks!

Horseless rider in Monterey, CA seeking something to bop around with. I could likely do something paid when the new year rolls around but at the moment I am living the completely broke student life and can only offer barn chores/sweat equity as payment, lol. My background is in h/j but I've been out of the saddle for almost 2 years now and am not picky at all re: the horse/its discipline. Feel free to message me if you think there's something to be worked out!

West Chicagoland, IL - Arabian/Saddlebred Gelding Looking for Shareboarder

I'm looking for a shareboarder for my 17-year-old, ~15-hand Arabian/Saddlebred gelding. He's boarded in the Wayne/St. Charles/South Elgin area - the farm has an indoor and outdoor arena, wooded trails on site, and access to several additional miles of trails and an equestrian-friendly forest preserve.

He does need an experienced and confident rider, because he occasionally gets nervous if there's a lot of activity or loud noises, and he looks to his rider for reassurance. He's a sweetheart and a goofball, extremely eager to please, and very smart. Once he knows what you're asking him to do, he remembers it forever.

I do trail riding, trot poles, homemade obstacle courses, small (1' or less) jumps, lateral work, and ground work with him. He also knows a couple of tricks, and could easily be taught more. He really enjoys being in the company of his people.

I'm asking $200 per month to ride/play with him as much as you'd like. If you want to take lessons on him, you're also welcome to bring your trainer to the farm. Please PM me if interested, and feel free to pass this information along to anyone you know who may be interested. Thanks.

Riderless horse in Siler City, NC'

Hello! Riderless horse in Siler City, NC. Horse is a greenbroke 7 year old (started by a professional but doesn't have a rider), is about 15.1 hh and is of unrecorded breeding. Pretty average mover (it seems, hard to tell) but over tiny jumps - OH the effort and knees! OOOHHHHH! Currently goes Western but can also go English.

Barn has an arena with lights, and a quality Western (NH) resident trainer and a hunter/jumper/dressage trainer (actual h/j rider who has her silver medal by qualifying on multiple horses) who comes in for lessons. You'd have lots of options! There is a path around the barn and local walk-to trails you can explore. The barn also has a formal horse obstacle course.

The owner is looking for a rider interested in an on-site lease. Potentially off-site to the right person. Rider can develop the horse for any discipline. Horse is a nurse-mare foal who has had a great start and green, but is undeveloped under saddle. Holy cow, his knees (I say!). He's an attractive guy who is palomino and could be a good mover with regular work and understanding of aids. Professionally started by one trainer and ridden by the other. The owners' daughter was to ride this horse but...she decided she liked boys more than horses.

If interested, please PM me! Thanks!

Looking for one or perhaps two riders to join our new ESAR (equine Search and Rescue) team. You would need to be evaluated by my trainer and matched with one of my horses. You would need to PAY FOR the evaluation and for the first couple of trail rides upon whichever horse when you go out on for one or two long trail rides with that horse and trainer.

I’m 18 years old and have ridden hunter/jumper for 9 years. Not looking to buy, as I’m moving away to college in the fall, but I can certainly exercise or potentially lease for the summer. While I’m used to thoroughbreds and warmbloods, I’m open to riding any breed, and I have some light experience with green horses. I have transportation and do not mind driving out to surrounding areas, and I may be able to board in the barn I train at.

I have a 16'1 15 y/o TBx gelding who could use one or two extra rides per week. I work full time in DC and can't get out as much as I would like. Has done mostly lower level hunters and eq in the past. Mostly looking for someone who just wants to come out and hack him around, but also open to possible lesson/show opportunities for the right person. Prefer someone who can come out during the week, but some weekend days might be available also as I travel a lot. Perfect for an intermediate or above rider who just wants some extra saddle time (he's a good boy but not bombproof). Shoot me a message with a bit of information about yourself and what you're looking for if you're interested!

Middle aged TWH gelding ISO someone to take him on long walks in the country and an occasional canter. This is a 2nd level gaited dressage horse who has more go &more jokes up his sleeve than he does lullabies and naps. He's not for a beginner. He's a BLAST if you know how to ride a horse. Seriously, he's a ton of fun, honest, not spooky, smart, and a blast to ride. His ideal rider is maybe in school at Montevallo or lives nearby and knows how to ride and welcomes a few check out rides to make sure it's a win win for both parties. Helmets are a MUST. We have access to 200+ acres of trails and fields plus a small arena. Please let me know if you are interested.

    This could be you

Horseless rider in New Braunfels, TX

I've recently relocated back to Texas from Pennsylvania and am looking for opportunities to ride. I am an experienced dressage rider with my USDF Bronze Medal and have shown through PSG. From 2013-April 2018 I worked as an assistant to a GP trainer.

I took the last year off from riding due to life circumstances and am looking to get back in the saddle. I grew up in Texas so I have experience riding Western and trail riding. I'm just looking for a way to spend some horse time that doesn't involve lots of horse showing and the serious expensive of having a competitive dressage horse.

References are available. Thanks for your consideration!
