Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You're responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the Forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it--details of personal disputes may be better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts, though are not legally obligated to do so, regardless of content.

Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting. Moderators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts unless they have been alerted and have determined that a post, thread or user has violated the Forums' policies. Moderators do not regularly independently monitor the Forums for such violations.

Profanity, outright vulgarity, blatant personal insults or otherwise inappropriate statements will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Users may provide their positive or negative experiences with or opinions of companies, products, individuals, etc.; however, accounts involving allegations of criminal behavior against named individuals or companies MUST be first-hand accounts and may NOT be made anonymously.

If a situation has been reported upon by a reputable news source or addressed by law enforcement or the legal system it is open for discussion, but if an individual wants to make their own claims of criminal behavior against a named party in the course of that discussion, they too must identify themselves by first and last name and the account must be first-person.

Criminal allegations that do not satisfy these requirements, when brought to our attention, may be removed pending satisfaction of these criteria, and we reserve the right to err on the side of caution when making these determinations.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it's understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users' profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses -- Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it's related to a horse for sale, regardless of who's selling it, it doesn't belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions -- Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services -- Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products -- While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements -- Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be "bumped" excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues -- Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators' discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the alert button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your Ignore list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you'd rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user's membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

Riderless horse in Winchester, VA area

Life is getting the best of me at the moment and I need someone to ride my 9 year old mare. She's big (17.1ish) and beautiful but has not done much in the past year due to my life circumstances. We've dabbled mostly in jumpers and have done some eventing clinics. She's super fun to ride, but can sensitive some days so would prefer an experienced rider. On-site only, but outside trainers are welcome at the farm. The farm has a huge outdoor, an indoor and a cross country course but no lights. Please PM me for more details.

Horseless rider soon to be in the Charleston, SC area!

I am a just-turned-26-year-old moving down to Charleston in mid-December. I competed 3' hunters and eq during my junior years, jumped up to 3'6" at home, but have not ridden much at all since going to college. I am starting out freelancing, so my schedule will be flexible, and I so miss my equine friends (er, and would love to make new human friends down South, too!).

I'm 5'2" and petite, so I can ride ponies and horses, and would actually prefer sticking to the shorter side. Really just want to hack out and get my seat back, but I'm happy to do anything. Rode a little western in my youth, love trails, love love love playing on the flat and over fences. My children's horse was a 16.1hh Thoroughbred who very much enjoyed testing me, so I'm game.

        Semi-riderless horse in Indianapolis, IN

10yo, 16h, TB Eventer. Going novice, ready for training this spring. Looking for a lease/partial lease. I have a new job and very limited time to ride. If kept at the same barn, board is VERY reasonable. Only 4 horses, outdoor arena, use of trailer, etc.

Would consider full lease off property with references and regular lessons with a trainer.

Great horse, tolerant, but would do best with someone who has experience eventing or with OTTBs.
Yes, I ride a pony. No, he would not be ideal for your child. No, he is not a re-sale project...

Riderless horse needs experienced rider around Butler, Pa

I would like to find someone to partially lease my 15 yo OTTB on my farm. He has been sitting bored for way too long. He is an amazing mover but needs a lightweight rider. Would excel in dressage with the right rider. Was started over fences but doesn't seem to enjoy it.
He is 16.1 hands, black bay with a white star, with great bone ( more old school tb than compared to the lightweight fine boned tbs today)
Available for short to long term lease on my farm only with competition allowance at lessor's expense. My farm has small dressage ring, cross country course being built and lots of trails. Stalls also available for full care boarding.
If interested, please PM for more details

Aroostook County, Maine - riderless (or under-ridden) horses

Now that we have three horses, we could use more hours in the day to keep them in riding shape!

Not sure if there are many COTHers way up in our area, but if you have a dressage/eventing background, quiet hands, and confident horse-handling skills, feel free to get in touch.

            We have the following horses:
            - a 19-year-old, 17.2 hand Percheron, bombproof as the day is long, knows basic aids and working on learning lateral aids and dressage
            - a 15-year-old, 15.2 hand OTTB lower-level eventer, excellent mover but a bit of a sensitive ride
            - a 27-year-old, 14.3 hand Appy who mostly totes around our younger family members for very beginner rides, but could use an occasional more advanced ride with a lighter rider to stay in shape

In winter, we're doing well if we ride 1-2 times per week, so each horse could easily have a few more rides with the right match. If you're interested in riding in exchange for helping out with the horses, let us know.

We're located in Caribou, about 25 minutes from Presque Isle or an hour from Fort Kent or Houlton.

Riderless horse in Chester County/Malvern, PA

Looking for someone to lease my 8 year old 16.2 TB gelding. Off-Site full free lease. He has shown many times in the 3'6" rated jumpers with success and a show record over the past 3 years. He tries super hard. He has been out of consistent training for some time, but will need a month or two to get back up into showing condition. He needs an experienced confident rider that can guide him and be firm. He has a super soft mouth and will not ever pull, but is spirited and needs patience while schooling. He is a wonderful talented horse, but strictly my financial situation prohibits me from showing him and furthering his training.

Would love to see showing, competing, and offering as much joy to someone as he has for me! Looking for someone by the new year! PM for my phone number to speak!

                Horseless Rider, Bothell WA

I am reposting mine, as it was back in October. .

I am a horseless rider in Bothell, Washington.

I am 14 years old, and very petite. I can ride 11-17 hand equines, and have experience riding English and Western. I have been a pony jock for years, and love the little ones!

I can walk, trot, and canter confidently, have started jumping, and know some dressage. I have also worked with young and green or naughty horses. Please send me a message if you have a horse needing some attention! Thanks

                  Riderless Horses: Jacksonville, FL

I have 3 horses that I'm needing help getting rode. Two are beginner/intermediate friendly. One is for a more advanced rider. I ride western, but 2 out of the 3 horses can also go English, I'm sure the other can as well.

I live nearby to 3 state parks with trails if you're looking to trail ride and can haul to them when I'm available. If you are looking to show I'm fine with that as well and can provide hauling.

Cici is a 17 year old APHA mare who's 15h and stocky built with a very cute coloring and build. She has been there and done that from barrel racing to English Equitation to Hunter O/F and even low level jumping. She is very well trained but has been ridden by kids the most lately so a bit of a refresher is probably needed just to get her going supple and soft again. She trail rides like a dream.

Cuervo is an 11 year old 15'2 AQHA palomino gelding. He's a very well broke rope horse. I know he's a head horse, not sure about heel but I know he's won quite a few jackpots locally. I don't rope, so I have no personal experience. He's a nice quiet ride and a bit more laid back. Very sweet. I do Civil War Reenacting on him and he's pretty darn bombproof! He trail rides like a dream too. I could really use someone who is willing to keep him in shape more than anything. He's the only one I'm not sure of English on simply because he's not fond of pressure in his mouth. Definitely a seat/leg cued horse, neck reins very well. I have competed in ACTHA rides on him and we have placed very well in the Open Division.

Jaeger is a 6 year old 16h AQHA horse who is probably one of the nicest horses in terms of potential I've swung a leg over. I've had him since he's been 2 and I have done 90% of his training. He does have a bit of temper but it's easily handled if you are a quiet and confident rider and becomes nonexistant with consistent work. Lots of speed and he loves to go. He has a nice natural form O/F and is very brave. I haven't done much jumping with him, just a bit of playing around but he has gone up to 2'9" with no issues with a friend just doing arena work (no shows). He's solid at a W/T, but he needs work on his canter. He wants to rush and pull through not to be mean but simply because he enjoys running and speed. A nice, quiet and effective rider is definitely needed for him. He does have leg/seat/verbal cues that are wonderful at the walk/trot, but once again the issue is at the canter. He's a nice horse to trail ride as well except for his canter skills. Jaeger is just at the point that he is requiring consistent work to finish him out and as it stands right now, I don't have the time. He DOES get much better at the canter with consistent work (when I was able to do it), especially in an arena setting. Could use work on collection as well and impulsion through the hind end.

I know it's a long shot, but I could really use the help at this point.

I presently have 4 horses and not enough time to ride them all. I have a small sand ring and also trail ride, weather permitting. We can trail ride for hours from my farm. Looking for someone who would be interested in riding a couple days a week - intermediate level or above. I am also looking to do a free off-farm lease on one of my horses, 9 yr old AQHA mare, great trail horse and ez keeper, can live outside. Please pm me if you are interested.

I'm looking for a horseless rider who wants saddle time. I have a nice OTTB mare that schools training level dressage, and up to 2'6" over fences, goes XC, the whole works. 16.3 big, bold, lots of scope. My work commitments are piling up and she is sitting. She has been hauled, shown, and does very well. Ride as many days as you want, no cost, just want someone to give her some attention.

Horses should be trained in such a way that they not only love their riders, but look forward to the time they are with them.

looking for a dressage horse to ride near Ringoes NJ

I am a competent adult dressage rider (schooling 3rd-4th level) that works full time with a professional trainer. My current competition horse has had an unfortunate stall accident and is likely to miss the current show season. I have 2 babies on the ground and am breeding again so would prefer not to buy a horse that is already going. I would be happy to contact someone in the Ringoes NJ area about bringing along a young horse already under saddle.

                              Horseless rider in Tampa FL

I am an experienced adult rider looking to get back into the saddle 1-2 times per week. I previously rode h/j as a junior and then schooled green OTTBs for flat and started them over fences. I'm looking to help out with a horse that needs more saddle time, and am open to a half-lease. Due to my busy career and two small kids, I'm limited to weekends, but I love the greenies and am small enough (5'1, 97 lbs) to ride mischievous ponies who need a tune up.

Need Help Keeping Horses Fit - Aldie VA

We could use some extra help keeping our horses fit. This would be great for someone who is interested in eventing and/or dressage. If you are interested and have had previous horse ownership experience, feel free to PM me.

Athletic, Show-Ready 5yo TB Mare in 5-College / MA area

I have posted her here before, but she's a young horse and her credentials have changed once again!

Lovely 16.1 (but petite, I am 5'2'' and fit perfectly) TB mare for an active rider. You don't need to show (although I am willing to talk about splitting costs) but I do want someone who is going to be WORKING her consistently, not just hopping on for a hack, as she just loves to learn new things.

Had been in dressage training for most of 2013, and she is right now in MD with Steuart Pittman, where she is learning to jump and be an event horse. He has nothing but positive things to say about her.

I'm gearing her towards eventing, but she is quick and catty over jumps and would likely make a great jumper too. Her dressage work is solid and trainer says she will have no issues getting to 3rd on raw talent alone, and will go further if her heart is in the game.

She is coming back the end of January, until then I have plenty of photos and videos. Open to a variety of situations, really just want a driven rider to help me get her out and about and learning.

Riderless OTTB between Atlanta and Athens, GA

I'm looking for someone to give my 5 year old OTTB gelding some more saddle time. I'm able to come ride him on the weekends and maybe once a week, but he needs a lot more miles. Come ride as much as you want, especially if you are able to ride during the weekdays!

He's currently doing well in basic dressage training, has a gorgeous canter and is a smart, fun ride. I haven't jumped him yet, but I'm sure he'd love to try! He's being ridden in a sidepull/hackamore at the moment and prefers it to a bit.

Barn is located in an eastern suburb of Atlanta, approx. 30 minutes outside of Athens. Barn is basic, but has a nice area for riding and lots of trails.

Horseless Rider in Tyson's Corner, VA

I'm new to the Northern Virginia/Washington D.C. area and am looking to find a farm within an hour of the District/Tyson's Corner, VA. I grew up riding as a competitive hunter/jumper and, despite having to give it up for a few years, desperately want to get back in the saddle. I'm looking for any way to ride again and am happy to help in exercising, working as a farm hand (mucking, feeding, show staffing, training, etc.) in exchange for riding privileges. I have experience training beginner/intermediate lessons, grooming, showing and the like. Feel free to private message me if you'd like to learn more or know of anyone who may be looking for a rider.

ENDURANCE RIDER NEEDS HORSE - SANTA CRUZ

I'm an East Coast endurance rider who misses the state parks in CA where I used to live and ride. There is an AERC ride coming up in Santa Cruz CA, the Fireworks 25/50, 07/12/2014. Is there an endurance rider out there attending the ride who has an extra horse?

I'm a low-end middleweight rider who can ride anything that's fit and fast. References / pics available. PM me if you're interested.
