Forum rules and no-advertising policy

As a participant on this forum, it is your responsibility to know and follow our rules. Please read this message in its entirety.

Board Rules

1. You're responsible for what you say.
As outlined in Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, The Chronicle of the Horse and its affiliates, as well Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd., the developers of vBulletin, are not legally responsible for statements made in the Forums.

This is a public forum viewed by a wide spectrum of people, so please be mindful of what you say and who might be reading it--details of personal disputes may be better handled privately. While posters are legally responsible for their statements, the moderators may in their discretion remove or edit posts, though are not legally obligated to do so, regardless of content.

Users have the ability to modify or delete their own messages after posting. Moderators generally will not delete posts, threads or accounts unless they have been alerted and have determined that a post, thread or user has violated the Forums' policies. Moderators do not regularly independently monitor the Forums for such violations.

Profanity, outright vulgarity, blatant personal insults or otherwise inappropriate statements will not be tolerated and will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

Users may provide their positive or negative experiences with or opinions of companies, products, individuals, etc.; however, accounts involving allegations of criminal behavior against named individuals or companies MUST be first-hand accounts and may NOT be made anonymously.

If a situation has been reported upon by a reputable news source or addressed by law enforcement or the legal system it is open for discussion, but if an individual wants to make their own claims of criminal behavior against a named party in the course of that discussion, they too must identify themselves by first and last name and the account must be first-person.

Criminal allegations that do not satisfy these requirements, when brought to our attention, may be removed pending satisfaction of these criteria, and we reserve the right to err on the side of caution when making these determinations.

Credible threats of suicide will be reported to the police along with identifying user information at our disposal, in addition to referring the user to suicide helpline resources such as 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.

2. Conversations in horse-related forums should be horse-related.
The forums are a wonderful source of information and support for members of the horse community. While it's understandably tempting to share information or search for input on other topics upon which members might have a similar level of knowledge, members must maintain the focus on horses.

3. Keep conversations productive, on topic and civil.
Discussion and disagreement are inevitable and encouraged; personal insults, diatribes and sniping comments are unproductive and unacceptable. Whether a subject is light-hearted or serious, keep posts focused on the current topic and of general interest to other participants of that thread. Utilize the private message feature or personal email where appropriate to address side topics or personal issues not related to the topic at large.

4. No advertising in the discussion forums.
Posts in the discussion forums directly or indirectly advertising horses, jobs, items or services for sale or wanted will be removed at the discretion of the moderators. Use of the private messaging feature or email addresses obtained through users' profiles for unsolicited advertising is not permitted.

Company representatives may participate in discussions and answer questions about their products or services, or suggest their products on recent threads if they fulfill the criteria of a query. False "testimonials" provided by company affiliates posing as general consumers are not appropriate, and self-promotion of sales, ad campaigns, etc. through the discussion forums is not allowed.

Paid advertising is available on our classifieds site and through the purchase of banner ads. The tightly monitored Giveaways forum permits free listings of genuinely free horses and items available or wanted (on a limited basis). Items offered for trade are not allowed.

Advertising Policy Specifics
When in doubt of whether something you want to post constitutes advertising, please contact a moderator privately in advance for further clarification. Refer to the following points for general guidelines:

Horses -- Only general discussion about the buying, leasing, selling and pricing of horses is permitted. If the post contains, or links to, the type of specific information typically found in a sales or wanted ad, and it's related to a horse for sale, regardless of who's selling it, it doesn't belong in the discussion forums.

Stallions -- Board members may ask for suggestions on breeding stallion recommendations. Stallion owners may reply to such queries by suggesting their own stallions, only if their horse fits the specific criteria of the original poster. Excessive promotion of a stallion by its owner or related parties is not permitted and will be addressed at the discretion of the moderators.

Services -- Members may use the forums to ask for general recommendations of trainers, barns, shippers, farriers, etc., and other members may answer those requests by suggesting themselves or their company, if their services fulfill the specific criteria of the original post. Members may not solicit other members for business if it is not in response to a direct, genuine query.

Products -- While members may ask for general opinions and suggestions on equipment, trailers, trucks, etc., they may not list the specific attributes for which they are in the market, as such posts serve as wanted ads.

Event Announcements -- Members may post one notification of an upcoming event that may be of interest to fellow members, if the original poster does not benefit financially from the event. Such threads may not be "bumped" excessively. Premium members may post their own notices in the Event Announcements forum.

Charities/Rescues -- Announcements for charitable or fundraising events can only be made for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Special exceptions may be made, at the moderators' discretion and direction, for board-related events or fundraising activities in extraordinary circumstances.

Occasional posts regarding horses available for adoption through IRS-registered horse rescue or placement programs are permitted in the appropriate forums, but these threads may be limited at the discretion of the moderators. Individuals may not advertise or make announcements for horses in need of rescue, placement or adoption unless the horse is available through a recognized rescue or placement agency or government-run entity or the thread fits the criteria for and is located in the Giveaways forum.

5. Do not post copyrighted photographs unless you have purchased that photo and have permission to do so.

6. Respect other members.
As members are often passionate about their beliefs and intentions can easily be misinterpreted in this type of environment, try to explore or resolve the inevitable disagreements that arise in the course of threads calmly and rationally.

If you see a post that you feel violates the rules of the board, please click the alert button (exclamation point inside of a triangle) in the bottom left corner of the post, which will alert ONLY the moderators to the post in question. They will then take whatever action, or no action, as deemed appropriate for the situation at their discretion. Do not air grievances regarding other posters or the moderators in the discussion forums.

Please be advised that adding another user to your Ignore list via your User Control Panel can be a useful tactic, which blocks posts and private messages by members whose commentary you'd rather avoid reading.

7. We have the right to reproduce statements made in the forums.
The Chronicle of the Horse may copy, quote, link to or otherwise reproduce posts, or portions of posts, in print or online for advertising or editorial purposes, if attributed to their original authors, and by posting in this forum, you hereby grant to The Chronicle of the Horse a perpetual, non-exclusive license under copyright and other rights, to do so.

8. We reserve the right to enforce and amend the rules.
The moderators may delete, edit, move or close any post or thread at any time, or refrain from doing any of the foregoing, in their discretion, and may suspend or revoke a user's membership privileges at any time to maintain adherence to the rules and the general spirit of the forum. These rules may be amended at any time to address the current needs of the board.

My 16yo, 16.1hh OTTB gelding would love to teach someone the ropes of dressage or eventing! He is trained and competed through Third Level and Prelim; now limited to Novice level eventing but still capable of Second/Third Level when in shape. Has been leased to a Novice rider for the past few months who just finished second on him BN at Poplar Place's schooling show. Not for a beginner, and not a packer, but good schoolmaster for intermediate rider or better. Located in Watkinsville, GA just south of Athens.

          Horseless Rider in Bothell, WA!

I am reposting mine, as it was back in August.

I am a horseless rider in Bothell, Washington.

I am 14 years old, and very petite. I can ride 11-17 hand equines, and have experience riding English and Western. I have been a pony jock for years, and love the little ones!

I can walk, trot, and canter confidently, have started jumping, and know some dressage. I have also worked with young and green or naughty horses. Please send me a message if you have a horse needing some attention! Thanks

            Horseless rider! in Santee, CA

I have been riding since I was 3 years old, but would like to get in a bit more time riding during the week, I am a intermediate level h/j rider who also does 3 day eventing. I can ride western as well at an adv level. Not picky about the size of the horse though ponies might not like me. I am pretty small I'm only 125 pounds but I have a bit of muscle bulk. Im only 5'4 so any size horse will be fine by me! spunky greenies are good by me too!

AUBURN, ALABAMA - have horses, need riders!!!

Trimac Farm in Auburn has horses needing exercise/grooming/loving at all times! My three live there and it is a great fun place to hang out. It's a hunter jumper barn with green to advanced horses, mostly TBs. There is always something fun to ride for any skill level.

                Baldwin, MI horses need riders

This is probably a long shot since we are in the boonies. Anyone experienced riders near Baldwin, MI looking for horses to ride?

I have a 3 year old Friesian mare that needs more riding time than I can commit to right now. She just returned a few weeks ago from spending 60 days at the trainer being started under saddle. Is still quite green; needs an experienced, confident, quiet rider. Has some buddy sour issues when leaving her buddies behind. Was broken out western, but I have ridden her English as well so either is fine depending on your preference. Flat work only, no jumping. Don't have a formal arena, but we have a fenced pasture you can ride in as well as a round pen; or if you feel up to it, lots of trails around us. Just needs more time and consistent riding that I can devote right now.

Also have an 11 year old palomino Morgan/Qtr mare, well broke, previous show experience with previous owner (western, halter, color classes; dressage, saddleseat , hunt, western, trail). Needs to get back in shape as she had a foal by her side up until the end of August. Easy and fun to ride; although a little lazy.

PM me if you are in the area and want to ride!

Riderless Horse in San Antonio, TX

5 y.o. Hano/DWB gelding needs leg up/fitness/suppling/dressage work in San Antonio. Was off all summer due to my injury/surgery, and now that I've gotten a new job, I'm just not able to get out to ride him as much as I'd like, especially with daylight savings coming to an end.

Looking for experienced rider to improve fitness via w/t/c, trot poles, cavalletti, lateral work. With the right rider, some jumping possible.

Horse has done schooling dressage, h/j, and eventing shows, and will hopefully make his recognized HT debut in the spring.

The place he is boarded does not have lights, so need someone who can ride in the daytime. Jumps and poles are available; arena is large dressage arena with 10-12 ft. lanes all around, fully fenced. A front field is available for hacking.

Feel free to PM me with questions or for more info.

Horseless Rider Searching for Free Lease or On Site 1/2 Lease- SE PA

Experienced 26yo adult ammy looking for a horse capable of 3' hunters/eq. Have been a catch rider for many local trainers and recently sold my investment prospect, who I brought from green broke to baby greens. Quiet, knowlegable rider will provide excellent care and keep your horse in good shape without overworking. Have spent many years assiting pros with green and sale horses, looking to get some more consistent show mileage at 3' on a capable horse. Would not campaign every weekend or over jump. Can be a horse that needs a confident or more technical ride, or needs brought back into shape. Did HITS, Devon, A's, local shows as a junior and can provide professional references as well as video of me riding. Could be a free full lease or on site 1/2 lease if in Chester County, PA.

Please PM me here or email me at

                      Thank you so much,

                        Sweet Briar, VA

I am a Sweet Briar College sophomore (age 19) looking for a horse friend. I have been riding for over 10 years and have a solid foundation in huntseat riding. If your horse needs more exercise, I would love to W/T/C them for you as much as you'd like. You don't need to pay me unless I am traveling more than 30 minutes from campus - I wouldn't object to a little reimbursement for gas. I would like to keep travel time under two hours both ways (Think Charlottesville). I am just a bored part-time student who needs some extra horse therapy and a reason to get out of bed on my days off. If you are interested PM me, I could even get my Sweet Briar riding instructor to tell you about my riding if you'd like.

Horseless Rider - NE MD/SE PA

Horseless dressage rider - total longshot here as I'm looking for something quite specific, but feel free to pass along. Looking for a safe, sane horse, older schoolmaster gelding would be ideal - 16.2 or larger (I am 6' tall.) I am admittedly out of riding shape at the moment as I've not been able to ride consistently for over a year, however I am dedicated, responsible, have references, and work in the horse industry. I have my USDF rider certificate at 1st level, have shown 2nd and schooled 3rd. Looking to ride a couple times a week, willing to travel within 30 miles of Colora, MD 21917.

I bet your college equestrian team/barn would be a great resource when it comes to finding some extra rides! I've seen those Sweet Briar brochures!

Horseless Rider- Newnan, GA - Adv. Intermediate

Responsible 27yo adult, mother of two, seeking some saddle time. Hoping to find someone local whose horse(s) may need an extra leg up/exercising/miles put on them. Have experience as a equine vet tech and assistant barn manager, and have handled everything from foals to stallions. Financial constraints mean I don't have the extra cash for lessons, but would be willing to trade stable work for riding for the right situation. Competent with quiet hands on the flat and have jumped up to 2'6", but I haven't ridden in the last year due to having a baby (but I worked hard, and am back in pre-baby shape ). Presentation is a big deal to me, so be confident that your horses will be finely groomed and barn aisles cleanly swept.

Riding videos and professional references are available, of course!
WHY am I such a sucker for cute ponies??!!!

Horseless rider in Gloucester County, NJ

Adult rider that has been out of the saddle for about a year, and out of consistent riding for a couple years. I just really miss it. Financially I can't afford to lease or pay for lessons (I am keeping a retired horse). I was hoping to find a horse close by that just needed an extra ride once or twice a week. Older but sound for light riding would be perfect. Larger 16+ hands, draft breeds would be great as I am out of shape and admitting have to drop some weight. My experience has been dressage (up to first level) the last years of my riding, with a bit of hunters in the beginning, but I am open to any discipline. Would be willing to do some feedings, clean tack, stalls, etc in exchange. Just want something safe to get back in some riding shape. References available.

Horseless Rider - North Shore, Mass

I'm currently a college student looking for a little more time in the saddle. I've been riding for around 10 years and did the hunters and eq when I was a junior. I'm on my college's riding team but I'd really like having some more time with horses. I'm willing to ride practically anything, fine with greenies. Thanks!

                                    Horseless Rider - VA

I'm an adv. beginner adult with confidence issues looking for a large pony or horse for on or off site lease. I ride English (flat) and/or western.

On site lease within 25 miles of Manassas, VA or free off site lease/FGTH.
We could all take a lesson from crayons some are sharp, some are beautiful, some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they still learn to live in the same box. Unknown.

Horseless Rider in Lake County, IL

My leased mare is headed back to her winter home in SC next month and I'm looking for some saddle time.

31 y/o adult grad student who's looking for a beginner safe horse to take on the occasional walk/trot hack or for a ride around the arena. I enjoy grooming so the horse would be getting a nice grooming before and after the ride. I'm also willing to help with barn chores too.

I'm friendly, love books, enjoy hiking in the woods and think that being in the saddle is the best part of my day.

                                        Riderless Horse in SEMI

Handsome older gentleman seeks lady friend for long walks in the woods (on 40 acres of groomed trails) and light dancing to include some shoulder-in, half-pass, flying changes and perhaps even a pirouette or two. Sweet, lovable guy, well-suited for a partner who has been around the dance floor a time or two and is looking for a bit of experience with the tricker moves. Tall, dark and handsome - all me! As such, I only have room in my dance card twice per week and you must come visit me in Saline, MI.

PM my regular partner - she'd be happy to assist with questions.

                                          Horseless rider - Greenville, SC

I relocated to the Upstate in SC in May, and while my background has been strictly H/J and eq, right now I'm not too interested in that.

I would love to find someone who just trail rides/hacks out and would like a friend to casually ride out with. I think I'm just missing being around horses, so I am willing and able to lend a hand with some barn work, turnout, feeding, or what have you. Completely comfortable with handling everday horse duties/life, I have good horsemanship skills, and I believe I'm a nice person and easy to get along with
